I am assuming that it is not just based on this part of the forum but instead the Swansea fans venturing into other parts? Hey?! Why is my reputation suddenly at rock bottom?! <laugh>

Edit: Hold on.... my rep is now higher than it ever has been?! What the hell is going on?! <laugh>

I particularily like the study she does on "the divide between 'active' and 'passive' spectatorship and support".

Loosely translated ....a plastic fan thread/debate!

The Twelfth Fan in the Cyber Stands: The Role of Online Forums in Constructing Football Fan Identities

A large amount of research concerning football as a cultural phenomenon has found that the representation of fans typically involves ‘extreme’ instances, such as hooliganism (Crawford, 2004) and
ignores the more ‘everyday’ forms of fandom. However in this chapter I argue that even literature which involves itself with ‘mundane’ football fandom is itself overly simplistic in its concentration on media
representations as opposed to fan discourses, and fails to identify the complexities involved throughout football fan groups and communities. When football fandom is discussed, it is often limited to the ‘passive
versus active’ spectatorship debate as a prevailing perspective. Drawing upon previous literature concerning the position of new technologies in fan discourses, this chapter explores the role of internet
forums in constructing football fan identities; presenting the football fan as an articulate, active participant in fan dialogue.

Through studying Not606.com and one team in particular, Swansea City FC, a series of online interviews and observation work was conducted which enabled the work to identify emerging wider issues throughout football fan discourse. From the prevalence of national identity to the discussion of recurrent socio]political issues, the chapter explores the role of power and identity among football fans, which goes far beyond the active/passive debate so apparent in past theory. It further identifies the significance of online fan spaces in allowing the development of discussion and debate, all the while acknowledging the role of not only new technology, but also the significance of studying football fan discussion and behaviour among fans themselves, as opposed to just representation/s. I argue that the implications of studying football fans through their representation alone is as simplistic and short hand as the oft criticised accounts themselves, and that the role of online technology in facilitating such discourse is a crucial component in contemporary football fan studies.

I bet that would make some interesting reading, wonder why she selected Swansea City not606 fans? would it be because we are Welsh, and racism issues? She certainly would have had a great deal to observe, wonder what she made of all the infighting, would love to read her take on these forums!......<laugh>

She was in Cardiff at the time... I assume... and Swansea are one of the clubs that you would have expected to gain a lot of new fans because unlike other clubs we had a meteoric rise from the bottom in a short space of time. By the way, her research must have been impressive because Loughborough University state this woman went on to present it at the DC 2012 Conference alongside people who conducted their research from other parts of the world ranging from physics to arts.

It may be a case of " be careful what you wish for" though, a complete character assasination!

I do fancy a read though! If I get another few names agreeing I will. Anyone else?

Don't take this the wrong way Phil but you have just a tiny bit of a track record of wumming too. Even in the highly unlikely event it's true no one would ever do a section on me that's for sure
