Ref was too far away (in the centre circle to see the shirt pull).
The pull of the shirt did not make Bale fall. Bale propelled himself into the air to emphasise the foul (so he did simulate).
Yes it was a penalty, but the dive to the ground was unnatural and did not help the referee to make the correct decision.

One converted penalty in one of our draws would've made all of the difference.

Just 1 or 2 penalties given out of the numerous we have had turned down could have given us the extra 2 points we needed. Bale must be seriously fed up, he has been yellow carded around 6 times for being scythed down and had 7 or 8 blatant penalties refused.
Did the referees have a joint bet on Spurs and Swansea not getting a single penalty this season and if so I wonder what the odds were. We should have had at least 10.I don't know about Swansea, but it seems inconceivable that they wouldn't get any. I hope the refs go to Specsavers this summer but I won't hold my breath.
Having watched that game today it does make you wonder, especially when you see some of the soft ones that go to other sides.
Like Arsenal, away to Wigan, home to Norwich and home to WBA (to name a few this season alone). These game changing decisions add up to quite a points haul.
A touch of 'The boy who cried wolf' methinks. You don't get so many cards for simulation without simulating.
And yet there are clearly far worse offenders (Ashley Young, Suarez) who not only get decisions going their way, but don't get booked for diving.
We've seen a number of referees have words with players for it in our games this season without booking them, too.
There's no consistency and we're getting shafted, unfortunately.
Today's was undoubtedly the worst.
In the past Bale has tended to throw his arms out a bit, which adds to the 'dive' argument (even if it's still a pen)

If the ref was too far away to give the penalty he was also too far away to book Bale for Simulation.
