To finish above both the Old Firm, win numerous domestoc trophies and win the Cup Winners' Cup, beating Munich and Madrid, in his spell, was remarkable for a club of their size. As for not going abroad, what's the point? If you're at the top, which as much as we all hate United, he was, why make a sideways, at best, move?
Slur Alex cannot be denegrated as a manager by anyone on here. His record in English football is the best. On analysis, he had the most money for years, bought and sold superstars for years, and almost had a head start on everyone as regards the "modern" way to go, i.e., bring in from outside. This financial clout won him many titles. But that's not all. He was a truly great manager of players, and had the respect and backing of his squads. he was ruthless when necessary, Japp Stam, Van Nistelroy, Keane , Beckham all know what I'm talking about. He had an eye for talent and was fearless in pursuit of the players he wanted. He also had weaknesses, chief amongst them his tactical nouse. He was often poor in Europe, and he met his match in the PL in Jose Mourhino, who simply beat him at his own game. Did he leave to avoid round 2 with Jose??? Maybe, maybe not, but he wouldn't have won it. It was time to go, nothing more or less. Goodbye, and for one who doesn't like the person, good riddance.

Only two people write United threads on here, nobody else. So I don't know if you could say 2nd board! I know DL has a genuine dislike for you but a lot of the other threads are aimed to get a rise and they work all the time.
