Also with social clubs / private clubs ie ciu and alike are going under at an alarming rate , due to the gamblers what used to punt the big win machines are now to be found in the high street bookies where the winnings from the machines are huge. several clubs in my area have closed due to this , as well as beer prices , smoking ban and rising rates from councils the industry like most things in this country is ****ed. for a really cheap drink go to the members bar in the house of commons, and you can smoke within as well
Well if we are being honest.... I've had an ongoing problem for about 1 year now, between Boxing Day and New Year's Eve, I put £1,800 on the roulette wheel. 2 months ago I got my monthly wage (around £1,900 mark) blew it again in a day and a half. Luckily for me, I've got a lass that doesn't bat an eye lid and supports me no matter what. I never go into a bookies, the problem for me is the phone. It's just far too easily accessible and takes 30 seconds to log on and place a bet, you can spin a roulette wheel about 3 times a minute and when it's £50/£100 spins, you can see how quick money goes. The steps I've taken is, get rid of phone with Internet and be mentally strong. I should be ok, in a naturally strong lad. I won't say I'm not going to gamble again, that will be my undoing.
Probably wont be much help but the best way is to have a set gambling budget and stick to it. I used to be on the phone to the bookies before online gambling became big. Far to easy to have a bet in every horse race and if losing try and play catch up when losing. Me I stopped backing horses, it helped with all the race fixing being proved, which made it even harder to pick a winner. I actually have a canny float in my betting pot right now, mostly built up with good odds footy bets, using the free bookies bets. Blew £500 on Sunderland last week, which took a big bite out of my pot mind. Set your budget stick to it and don't play catch up.
Good advice, but with all respect that's the advice you should give to people new to gambling. People that have been hooked, should just not gamble at all, not even the Grand National.
because its free and just as enjoyable, get the apps on your phone, doubledown is dead canny, i've had problems with bandits a couple of time in my life, i have a little play on it each day, now when i walk in a boozer i am no longer "moth boy" (attracted by the flashing lights) all the games are on the app harmless fun
Thanks for all the advice and the honesty of some posters who say they have had a problem as well. I have set myself a date to stop next Saturday May 25th to see if that works. I did a similar thing with drinking in 2001 and have managed to stick to that but gambling is proving to be much harder to crack. It's not the money that's important it's the risk for some reason. Like I said thanks for the support it's much appreciated.
That wouldn't help mate, I would find myself winning and turn to playing with real money. I'm not on here either as a sob story, nor would I ever ask for sympathy. I firmly believe when people find themselves in a mess, it's their own fault and up to them to sort it out.
I bet you a million pounds you can't go a week without mentioning plakka mags. (This is a tongue in cheek bet btw billofengland)
it doesnt, it seems to feed, you only play with what you get daily, when you win you play more, when your dosh is gone, its gone, you've had your fix, try it mate, its canny, the buzz is the same believe it or not
That's what it was like for me mate. It wasn't about the money at all. It was about the adrenhalin rush I got from the fear and excitment. I would drop the jackpot on a fruit machine and just stand there, sometimes for hours just putting it all back in. Complete madness, but that's gambling for you. 32 years since I last put a coin in a fruit machine.....
Well done mate, I know it's 30 odd years later but I understand. I'm very confident I've placed my last bet
Thanks mate, appreciated To be totally honest this is the first time I've opened up about it, apart from the Mrs obviously. Dunno why, I just did.
