To me, this Rebic denial sounds like a clever stunt from AVB, for whatever reason it is.

If we weren't interested in him, it'd be such a random name for the gutter press to choose as their "bullshit headline". The kid isn't the sort that's going to drag the attention of viewers like us, in the same way it has done with David Villa in the last few days. Therefore why pick him if it's bullshit? they'd go for a much bigger name to reel everyone in. - More like Villa!!

IMO, it's true and AVB is denying it as other clubs are sniffing, so he's trying to say we know nothing.

The story seems too true to be fake. - i know that might seem like a stupid comment.

AVB is refreshingly vague on the transfer front.
This is one vast improvement on Arry.

Apart from Modric and a couple of other occasions 'Arry's interviews were hard to read anything into as well, everyone was a "top, top player" and nearly as many of them were players he'd love to work with. Not a slight at 'Arry, he'd just a bit kind.

Top, top player is ok. But that + would love to have them is the point of STFU.

Saying how much he wanted Joe Cole - Joe Cole - didn't do him many favours, especially given MUPLC and Arsenal had already told him to do one over his ridiculous wage demands.

I think that Rebic's agent linked him with us to generate interest in his client. Spurs + a Croatian makes sense, so the media ran with it.
I think that they might have been Redknapp's speciality, though. He started with Prosinecki at Portsmouth, if I remember right, so it's understandable that he's brought in a few since.
He did an interview with one of our fans a while ago where he talked up Croatian signings to the heavens. He's managed a few really top players from there down the years.

I always took Redknapp's "he's a triffic player" responses to be a media friendly no comment.
He'd say it about virtually anyone, so it was basically his way of avoiding the question.
Why it seemed to upset opposition fans at times is a little puzzling, to be honest.

    PNP :

The problem is that, you got the feeling that if Levy had provided the money, half of the
"triffics" (Joe Cole etc) would be grazing on the Spurs wage bill now.

Joe Cole was a free agent - so we should be eternally grateful to Levy for putting his foot down on that one.

...or at least until his haggling means we play our first two or three games without our first team in place. Again.

there's some interesting quote from AVB in this article.

    http://www1.skysports.com/football/...Gareth-Bale-will-help-lure-big-names-to-Spurs

"Tottenham boss Andre Villas-Boas says that the club will use Gareth Bale to help lure top players to White Hart Lane.

Bale has enjoyed a scintillating campaign, winning Footballer of the Year, Player of the Year and Barclays Premier League Player of the Year.

And Villas-Boas feels having a superstar like Bale at the club will help their recruitment drive this summer.

"I think the more strong your squad is, the better, and the fact that we have Gareth achieving those individual awards this season is obviously something that other players will recognise as important moving forward," he said.

"This summer, we will be adding quality players, I think. We can't compete at the level that others go for in terms of the big names that are around and the players that you expect to be moved for having done well during the season.

"We are in a different type of market and we have to scout properly to get good names from around the world and the Premier League."

Villas-Boas also insisted that Spurs are ready to make early moves, rather than waiting for late in the transfer window as they have previously done.

"I think as you will agree we have done things like that in the past and you will also agree that this club has managed to get some great coups at the end of the transfer market," he said.

"But ideally, when you set up for the first game of the season, to have put the team to bed would be the ideal situation."

    1. reinforces the stance on Bale again, and that he's staying.
    2. genuine quality to boost the squad.
    3. EARLY MOVES!!! no panic buying!!
    4. A full team when the season starts! no messing about at the start of our season!

    Very reassuring to hear this.

We can dream Roo! It would be lovely if we could at least get NEW STRIKER sorted out early doors. That bit sorted and then I don't think there is any other area we are desperate to sort out for our first 11 for the first game of next season. Obviously we do need to strengthen our squad but we will need to be patient as we don't have stupid amounts of money to throw at our team.
Nervous about tomorrow already. Can we please have some luck over Arsenal for once!

yeah agreed. But at the same time, AVB need time to work with his new players.

I'm not. I've accepted that we're finishing 5th. anything else is a bonus.

True but at the same time we don't need huge changes as its not like we are a million miles off with the squad we have. With Man U, Man City and Chelsea all with new managers stability could be the key.
I think Arsenal will win tomorrow but there is always that chance so keep believing!

Agreed CJ, signing someone early would be a statement of intent and could lead to further signings. It must be obvious to Levy that our inactivity in the transfer market has led to us fighting for 4th. With a 20 goal a season striker and some guile in midfield we would be third comfortably. It seems obvious AVB is a "project" man. Maybe this will give DL the confidence to invest in that project.

Just an observation on the Bale situation, He has signed up with the BT sport Channel and is plastered all over billboards in the London area, Do they plan showing European League Games ? If not why would they sign a player who will not be playing in the prem.

Good luck, Croydon. Maybe your hero can cheer you up this evening by scoring the winner at Old Trafford?
