Sound Of Guns 5/1 runs in the 3.40 Newbury today because of the rain at York yesterday and its a massive, massive shame that it came as this race is an incredibly more competitive contest. Standing in her way is current favourite Ninjago who I could not have been more impressed with on his 3 year old debut when bolting up in a Listed contest last month and his wind operation over the summer has clearly improved him considerably. He went into my notebook straight away that day as I think he looks a sprinter with a massive future and its going to take a very big performance from Sound Of Guns to beat him. However, I do feel she is a very, very talented horse herself and I am quite happy to back her each way at 5/1 as I'll be disappointed if she is out of the frame with Martin Harley taking the ride for the first time. In the 2 year old opener at York, I think Quatuor is a very talented filly who should take a lot of beating but I couldn't have been more impressed with Majestic Alexander 11/2's win on her debut and I am sure David Evans well bred filly has a huge future. If this was on good ground, I would definitely be having a sizable bet but I am quite concerned about her ability to handle soft ground and have scaled down my bet as a result
I have just struck a small wager on these before I drive down to Ilfracombe for the weekend... 2:45 York: Cavalryman 5/2 6:30 Aintree: Night In Milan 11/2 7:05 Aintree: Party Rock 6/1 8:15 Aintree: So Fine 14/1 (NAP) Good luck all!!
Yep I see where you are coming from. When he won at Epsom in 2011 the ground was a touch slower in parts than was reported as they had either watered or had rain not long before the meeting and I think John Dunlop might have said he doesn't want it too fast. I then plunged on him at 20s and he hacked up. Partly the reason why I still think he has races in him. He was very unlucky at Goodwood that year off 103 ..repeatedly denied a run. If he has a stinker today it will just set him up for an easier opportunity. I think the first run was definitely a pipe opener- ridden too far back and made late headway, and hopefully the hood is the reason behind his last start. It has bought him a nice 4lb drop in the handicap though!
I think he attended Salisbury and Newbury on the thurs & fri last season too. Worth taking the hint as Hannon clearly targets those two meetings.
It's a tricky old contest but I quite like the look of Oliver Sherwood's Drum Valley in the 7.05 at Aintree tonight. Won a conditionals handicap off the same mark 5 days ago (carrying top weight) and Jack Sherwood can claim 7lbs here against the pros. Looks an unexposed type and likes top of the ground and, call me an old sentamentalist, but I've always liked Oliver Sherwood.

Afternoon all. Today's lucky 15. Newb,2-00=Winsili. York,2-15=Sir John Hawkwood. York,2-45=Guarantee. York,3-15=Pavlosk. (Nap) Winsili & Pavlosk double. Good luck to all.
There was a young lady called Muck Who suffered from terrible luck; Stripping off on a punt She fell of the front And was pecked in the *unt by a duck
Afternoon all CHAMPIONSHIP is worth watching in the first at Newbury. Hannon has won the race 4 times since 2006 with some good horses as well (Strong Suit, Canford Cliffs & Major Cadeaux) according to the racing post. Not backing him but he is interesting. VENDOR 7.05 Aintree (NAP) Slipping down to a decent looking mark and was running a better race last time out before being hampered and unseating 3 out. Alan Kings horses are in good form at the moment and at 9/1 I think this one is a good bet.
