i love music. sweet, sweet music. just as long as it's grooving. ......which rules out most modern, manufactured pop and r&b which gets on my tits. it's simply ****. Old rock, rhythm and blues, hard rock, funk, soul, punk, house, jungle, indie and even some classical. far too many artists to name, but current playlist for cycling has a bit of Led Zep, The Police, Bowie, Black Grape, The Pixies, New Order, Cockney Rejects and a bit of early 90's jungle/drum and bass. also off to see the Roses at Finsbury Park on june 7th...should be fun. as should some of the open air festivals here this summer. looking forward to the mid-summer madness.
Scorpions! When I was working in Hildesheim which is 30Km. south of Hannover I was asked to play with the Scorpions. This was the early 70's and they were nowhere near as big as they are now. A couple of years later we had the Bassist from the Scorpions (Lothar Heimberg) playing with us in a band I was in (Wilt the Stilt) He left the Scorpions after their first LP, Lonesome Crow.
Simply 'The Greatest Show on Earth'.

One of my dreams is about to materialise next month at Parklife in Heaton Park. Jurassic 5 have regrouped and are playing as part of the festival, I'll have then ticked every live music box on my bucket list. Prodigy The Verve Jay-Z Oasis Damian Marley J5 Ray Quinn Anyone ever make a trip to Sankey's in Manchester over the years? Closed it's doors for the last time in April. Often voted the world's best club (scruffy dump owned by a total **** stain) had many a good night in there for Redlight. People over here in Manchester are walking around as if the Hacienda has just closed again, there's always Walkabout and Weatherspoons FFS! My mrs asked me this morning on the way to work which decade I'd liked to have been part of as an adult youth and I just said "80's then 70's, any but the load of **** that's on offer for the youths today". iPhone's are more important than family/friends nowadays, I remember waking up with make-up on my arm/chest that vaguely resembled numbers and laughing it off, nowadays it's straight in the iPhone and you're sending them pics of your nob before you know her name! Anyway, the deciding factors of which decade I've liked living through the most, it's always music, it's the first thing that enters your mind when you think about it. Like Paulo's Pecs says, without music I'd rather not be around for the ride, an integral part of my life.
Smashing post that matey Been to Sankey's several times over the years, was based in Manchester for a year in Denton a few years back, that was a proper, proper club, akin to Shindig up here before it moved camps and lost it's way (found it again now praise the lord!). Jurassic 5 I would LOVE to see, I have a self-made hip-hop classics CD in the car that starts with the extended intro version of 'Concrete Schoolyard', and I never tire of the beats in that track, I know they had better tracks, but I think there's so much in that track that shaped modern, non 'Radio 1' hip-hop. I've seen the Prodigy live 7 or 8 times and they have blown me away every time, likewise the Chemicals who at Creamfields one year, directly after Massive Attack, gave me one of the most unforgettable hours of my life. Sounds amazing mate, I watched Prodigy first at V-Festival a few years back and managed to catch the Verve live at the same festival, although I've seen both individually as well. Ray Quinn was obviously a personal highlight, I just love a fat dumpy scouser singing 'you'll never walk alone'. As for J5, I've had Quality Control, J5 and Feedback in my car on rotation for years amongst others. I love everything about them especially Chali 2Na with his "Rare Acoustic" as he puts it. I've picked up a few remixes online lately from Youtube mostly and they form most of my playlist for the gym at the minute. There's a 13 minute track of "Get it together" mixed in with Mos Def and some Chali 2Na stuff, , fairly amateur but it's decent for interval training that lasts 10 minutes at a time! Best live DJ set I've ever seen was probably DJ Premier (of GangStarr) in Vegas, he threw loads of J5 in there. Seen a few special sets at Pacha in Ibiza too, back in my clubbing era!
As a DJ myself (link in sig) I've always had a massive respect for people who blend different styles into their sets, mixing hip-hop to hip-hop is an art in itself, far more to it than what I do with house. I used to go to a night at Revolution on the Oxford Road by the railway arch, they used to have 3 DJ's mixing and scratching and cutting hip-hop, was fantastic, great nights are a dying thing now sadly, bars go for mainstream and ram them in, with no care of the quality or reputation that a top night can bring a venue. Sad.
Certainly is mate, Kanye West and Lil Wayne always puking at everybody that they're 'Kings' of Hip Hop. It's almost like you don't have to earn a status anymore, you can sell some records on iTunes and all of a sudden that gives you the right to proclaim you're the greatest of all time! I listen to another hip hop duo that have been around for years, Binary Star, if Kanye or Lil Wayne tried to battle these cats they'd end up with nappies full of ****. Same goes with any genre I guess, I know for certain that Rudimental & Example will get Parklife going, and they're obviously talented kids to a degree but I'm more looking forward to Krysko and Andy C, rolling back the years and I'll end up stood on my own cos my Mrs is overly embarrassed and ran away to watch Rita Ora.
Always the benefit that Rita is a nailed on cert to flash some unintentional boob mate Got the Roses at Finsbury Park to look forward to 7th June, missed them last time to my utter heartbreak , so that's something I'm pretty excited for, support not been named yet but rumours of Libertines reforming and maybe Noel Gallagher. Could be a great day all round.
You mean sweet soul music?
