Someone mentioned it's 50 years since Spurs won the league.Where has the time gone? But then, that team was one in a million and no team before or since can come close to matching them, oilwells or camels dung!
It's not okay hence why I am asking SeanDCFC kindly if he could celebrate on our board but there isn't much else I can do I'm afraid as it isn't my board
Fair enough mate It doesn't make amends but it puts a smile on faces and reasons to be optimistic after a terrible season on and off the field (probably the worst in the last 10 years). I'm thrilled we won it. I think both managers managed to get the balance of the side right but what I don't like is the press and their agenda. When RDM inherited the team and won the CL, it was "lucky", when Benitez wins the Europa League with (let's be honest) Benfica the only real tough opposition we faced he's a "tactical genius" and we "owe Rafa a great deal of credit". Can't have it both ways. I'm giving Benitez credit for restoring the balance to the side as I did with RDM. I didn't think Benfica were anywhere near as good as people made out, but granted they dominated the first half. Bayern and Barca (1st leg) was a completely different story.
All fair points except one. Benfica have a habit of losing finals, seven on the trot is it now so you didn't play a strong final winning team. But that's splitting hairs really.
I think it's only fair,if we done that on their board we get dog's abuse,so they should expect the same, and it was'nt that bad,but it was true.
Right. Benfica have a habit of losing finals so how can he say we'd lose to them? Daftest statement I've read on this forum all year.
"But then, that team was one in a million and no team before or since can come close to matching them" Greavsie wrote in the Sun yrs ago that he thought the Goons "Invincibles" team was probably closest in equivalent play to the Double side.
I saw every home game that season. They were a superbly balanced team. Very talented individuals also, but the main thing was that blend, that balance in the team. That team could come at you from either wing, through the middle with the guile of White & Blanchflower, and at the back you had Mackay minding the shop before you even got to the back 4. It's one of the reasons I rattle on about balance at times. It's so important, IMO.
So right NSIS. The game is all about balance. Balance between defence and attack, long balls and short passes, perspiration and inspiration. I hope with AVB we find that balance. I think we are a couple of players away, if everybody's fit.
Which only adds to the argument about the dropdown being a bad idea. Progress a little further in the CL and end up with a worse result?
"Progress a little further in the CL and end up with a worse result?" How can you end up with a worse result ?? Money raked in or UEFA ranking points. They wouldn't be giving it all that if they started in the Europa on day 1.
I think the point PNP is making is that teams progressing to the last 16 or Q-F of the CL- Utd or Arsenal, for example- did better in the CL than Chelsea, but didn't get the consolation of a crack at the EL when knocked out. Seems to be another strange anomaly. You have to fail very specifically to qualify for the EL from the CL. Not so badly that you finish bottom of the qualifying group, not by doing better and making a little progress. Only by finishing 3rd in the group! It really is a nonsense.
"You have to fail very specifically to qualify for the EL from the CL. Not so badly that you finish bottom of the qualifying group, not by doing better making a little progress. Only by finishing 3rd in the group! It really is a nonsense." That much is true. But you do get 'punished' by having to play at least two more games.
