Quality film, for people old enough to remember that era, how accurate is it? Paints that Leeds team in a veryyy bad light

  3. Quality film. Unfortunately before my time, I can remember the latter years of his Forest days. After the film was made there were a few celebs that spoke out about it, some in agreement that it was a good portrayal and other not so. Nigel Clough refused to be part of it after watching the preview because he felt it portrayed his father in a bad and wrong light.

Dont think it paints him in a particularly bad light, a crusader against anti football and screwed over by Derbys chairman and Leeds player.

How true or not it is, its very entertaining! Not gonna help the general disdain towards Leeds though.

"Well, I might as well tell you now. You lot may all be internationals and have won all the domestic honours there are to win under Don Revie. But as far as I'm concerned, the first thing you can do for me is to chuck all your medals and all your caps and all your pots and all your pans into the biggest ****ing dustbin you can find, because you've never won any of them fairly. You've done it all by bloody cheating."

Showed a clip of Bremner getting Keegan getting sent off for Liverpool. From that clip Leeds looked brutal!

  6. The film doesn't suggest he was screwed over by the Derby chairman, it suggest that Clough did what he liked and often went against the chairman's decisions.

    Top quote <ok>

You won't find many Liverpool fans in favour of Cloughie though <ok>

For the benefit of Derby though.

  9. Forest were a rival to Liverpool back then, he didn't exactly help with Hillsborough either.

Gotta respect his achievments with Forest and Derby though. Havent heard of the Hillsborough stuff he did though. Sorry if this thread was insensitive

  11. Not sensitive, you asked and I answered.

I live in Notts (hence the Mansfield location on the left) so saw a bit of Cloughie when I was growing up, especially with a lot of mates supporting Forest. Shame I only really remember the latter end where Forest were struggling before going down.

I just watched this. I really enjoyed it but it should have been longer. I was dissapointed when it suddenly ended though. It was like the Lord of The Rings ending at the point when Frodo realized he was wrong to send Sam home. they skipped the whole glory days of Clough.

Probably because it was a film about his time with Leeds!

I don't think it painted the Leeds team in a particularly bad light. Everyone knew of them as dirty Leeds anyway and I can't really blame the players for not liking Clough after he called them all cheats and basically implied that they didn't deserve to win the trophies they had under Revie.

    Clough - Derby legend!

Spoke the truth, put the media/journalists in their place with cracking interviews (most notably telling Motson to shut up!!).

A real football man who stuck two fingers up to the directors and the establishment (i.e. the FA).

Played football the right way. <ok>

The book is a good read for anyone interested.

It doesn't claim to be fact and is a fiction 'based on actual events' which gives the author licence to be economical with the truth.
Still, it's a good story and I watched again last night.

I fully believe Leeds to be the horrible ****s they are portrayed as!

He was a **** and his comments about Hillsborough were a disgrace. He was a great manager until he became a drunk, I think most people will remember him as a mad old drunk rather than a great manager.
