I hate call-centres. But one thing I hate more than call-centres is having to call them. And I only ever call them when they don't give the option for what I want to do online. All these companies provide great online websites for 'managing your account with minimal effort' but one thing they don't provide is a one-click 'close account' or 'cancel policy' option. Oh no, for that you have to actually call the ****ers and wade through loads of options before speaking to someone, telling them what you want and then spending the next two weeks monitoring your bank statements and wondering if they actually understood you or did what you asked. Insurance companies I've noticed are particularly bad for that.

So respect to this geezer for setting this up. Could be on a par with the 0870 to landline conversion site - www.saynoto0870.com

I don't do call centres, if I have an issue that involves calling Mumbai, I simply stop paying bills until they call me, then when they do, I switch to another provider.

Call centres in Mumbai should deal with customers in Mumbai, there should be call centres in England to deal with customers in England. If you deal with anyone who uses foreign call centres, then stop and find yourself a provider who offers a decent service.

I have a TPS number, so shouldn't get cold calls, but I still do. It can be fun though, as you can say anything you like, as they're not allowed to call you. I normally go with 'die you filthy insect bastard', or if I'm in a rush I go with a simple '**** off ****'.

When it comes to customer service in this country, you have to go to small companies, the big ones are ****ing useless.

The best cold call I got was on my old work's landline -

'Hello sir, do you know your postcode has been specially selected to receive a free brand new kitchen'.....
'What really? My postcode right here, are you certain?' I replied in excitement.
'Absolutely sir, 100% guaranteed, we just need to take some personal details and then we can make the arrangements'....
'You know this is the Headquarters of <company name>' I replied
'HaHa, just kidding' said the caller and hung up immediately. Bloody moron.

You're absolutely right about small companies. My ISP is a small company and not well known, but their service is brilliant - never any downtime, no port throttling, excellent comms. Costs a bit more but well worth it ahead of the commercial crap from Sky, BT, Orange etc.
