With Stevan Gerrard on the injury list Roy Hodgson will need a stand in Captain for the friendlies against Eire and Brazil ! His choice semms to be fixed on either Lamps or Rooney! Call me biased but I cant see his problem! Surely Frank is his man!

I thought Hart was next in line? Of the 2 posed in the OP, only one has the footballing brain to be captain, and it aint Rooney. Lampard is a proper professional and would be a worthy captain. Being friendlies they might go next generation and choose Jagielka?

SD--There was an article in the Times today about Gerrards injury and with Terry and Ferdinand now stood down, the choices left to Hodgson to choose from! Hart was not mentioned!

Between those two it would have to be Lampard, especially with Rooney's current club situation

Name in a hat and the first one you take out.

If it doesn't work do it again until you end up with a leader.

Much better idea that....'How can we move forward? Oh, I know, lets go backwards'.

    Fantastic suggestion <ok>

There are some younger players such as Wilshere and Jones that could potentially be captain in coming years but right now we need someone with experience and leadership... considering what's available I think Lampard is a good choice.

We have had people with leadership and experience for the past decade. its got us precisely nowhere.

Time for something radical. It would be great to see an entire england side made up of players that dont have a single cap between them.

You could argue that a balance would be better but again, imo its time to completely do away with the england of old and start fresh. the last ten years have been awful in every respect. Players who dont care, John Terry thinking he runs the show, rubbish managers who couldnt get a team to perform if it killed them.

You mentioned Jones, theres your captain.

none of the above. Lamps has never looked good in a England shirt as England has not the holding Midfielders of the Quality like Chelsea have had over the years which made Lampard look better than he really is. Gerrard the same. For their clubs not a prob's .

Anyway congratulations to Chelsea for being the first team to hold both European cups simultaneously.

    Shocking England manager yes.

I mean were you unfortunate enough to watch his England team at a major tournament?

Beating andorra and San Miguel or Kopperberg FC 97billion-0 in Qualification shouldnt be considered an achievement

When was the last time there was a good England manager? Seems to be a poison chalice.

Capello seems to be doing very well with Russia.

    Venables.

Hoddle was ok, Keegan was awful, Sven was boring but at least consistent ( Hes a shout for the last half decent england manager ), Mclaren was awful and capello was horrid. Woy is just bland, very very bland.
