Cheers all for the messages... Currently in Calais waiting to get back home to England. Eurotunnel train leaves in just over an hour. It's was unbelievable. We all went silent as that ball floated in. Thought it was going over. Over the chuffing moon and will come back when recovered and at home. CHAMPIONS OF EUROPE, WE'RE HOLDING BOTH CUPS
Wow, what a night again. We didn't play particularly well but like all great champions we found a way. It has felt in the last few games that the season has caught up on us so great credit to the players for getting over the line in the top 4 battle and winning another european trophy. We made history last night, simple as that. Maybe C.L drop outs shouldn't be in it but it was the same for Benfica and blame Eufa for that, not Chelsea. Well done to Rafa, he can leave with his head held high and will surely get a good job in the summer. I wish him well and hope the Chelsea fans going on sunday will show a bit of class and give him the send off he deserves. Good platform for next year. Lets hope we can move forward now, get fully behind the new manager (hopefully Jose) and lead a proper charge on the title next year. It is there for the taking with Fergie gone and City in a bit of disarray. Looks like Lamps deal will get done too, more great news. Finally, very pleased for Torres in particular (great interview afterwards and celebration for the goal!).
A great night, not really at the races in the 1st half but improved in the 2nd 1st British club to win all 3 euro trophies and 1st club to hold CL & EL making history and not living it I to hope Rafa gets a good send off done well in difficult conditions
Yep, add my congrats, well done. Good to see you guys doing your bit for our co-efficient. Take issue with the crowing over holding both. Of course you will be first at that, because usually the CL winners don't drop down into the Europa in the next season. You are only in it because you ballsed up the CL. Crow about winning another trophy (of course) but I would rein in the holders of both brag, cause that is an indication of failure
Point taken SpursD yes we ballsed up CL but made the most of a bad CL campaign by winning EL so on that basis it is a neat achievement
Congrats on last night lads. Obviously it's not quite as spectacular as the CL triumph last season, but the EL is still a tough competition to win with some very good teams. I don't know why the mentality amongst so many is that it's such an inferior competition. It's far from it. Again, well done.
It's inferior to the C.L but still a good comp and there were some bloody good sides in there. Benfica, Zenit, Atletico, Napoli, Basel etc as well us Chelsea and Spurs. Not an easy comp to win at all, as displayed by Manchester's finest last year. Proud to have won it and hopefully we wont be going back in for a while!!
Basel the most impressive, IMO. I don't think they'll be hanging onto the likes of Strellar, Salah, Stocker and Dragovic for much longer...
Glad for Rafa. Over the moon, he has had to put up with some real **** over the last 7 months so he deserves it. EL is not what it used to be, it's a difficult compo to win nowadays. Some big name teams in it.
it's definitely helped making it a 4 team group as opposed to 5. - Also as poor as ITV is for sport, it's better than channel 5, which always seemed so morbid and lifeless. With both of those factors in mind, it feels more like a "champions League" format, even if it is just the junior version. The "drop out" format is not perfect by any means, but you're right, it's certainly not as bad as it used to be
Well done to you guys and have always had a soft spot for Chelsea ever since my school days (many decades ago now). However would love Benfica to lift another European trophy soon, and should they drop into the Europa League again I will happily cheer for them. Wigan, Swansea, Arsenal are a difficult trio to cheer for!!
Will the Chelsea fans now say sorry to Benitez, for abusing him and not giving him the recognition he deserves? I would expect banners for Rafa in the next match. This trophy belongs to him as without him I think you would not have got it.
I guess the players had nothing to do with it then?!?! He done well and will leave with the best wishes of many Chelsea fans. We are not drones and don't all think the same. Personally I think he's done a good job and can leave with his head held high but it was probably best for all concerned that it ends here. Jose casts a big shadow and some fans will never take to Benitez and would be on his back as soon as anything went wrong.
the crazy thing is that despite constantly getting criticised for sacking managers its usually the media that gets them sack by printing a load of **** that mostly isnt true then sitting back and criticising us for it i just wish we would have banned some of these ****s from our ground like saffa use to when they made up **** about him.
