The save he made last night at 1-1 against Wigan, may have saved our season. Szczesny comes in for a lot of unnecessary criticism in my opinion. He's only 23 and still learning, there are a couple of areas in his game that need improving, but he has time on his side and already he's proved that he can cut it at the top level. He's young and he's a bit cocky, but he has got all the qualities to go on to become one of Arsenal's best keepers in a long time - and we have had some brilliant ones over the years.
Not sure i'd have chosen last night's game to highlight, he really should have saved Maloney's free kick. I still think he's our future keeper though
Seems like the competition from Fabianski has spurred both players to their best form. Good for the club.
Think that's a bit harsh to be honest. It was a brilliant free kick, I don't think there are many keepers that would have stopped it.
For his age he is still a very good keeper. He has a few things he needs to improve (I think bringing in an experienced keeper would help him develope) but the guy is aobviosly a die hard Arsenal fan and has a promising career ahead of him.
He got a full hand on the free kick, shouldn't have gone in. Made it look like a much better free kick than it was. He was positioned well and the shot wasn't that powerful, this was the type of fk that is regularly saved by very average keepers. Koscielny saved his ass with that acrobatic interception when Szcz completely missjudged the situation. He would have been nowhere near doing anything about that. please log in to view this image And he was still up to his usual "quick short passes of the ball to the defenders when half the opposition team is in our half" shenanigans. He is a good shot stopper (who isn't even consistent at that anymore), and average to bad at everything else almost. Would be much more at ease with a more consistent/sane keeper who might not be as good as him at reflexive saves.
This sort of shot is not saved by average keepers. In fact there is not a goalkeeper in the world that would have got to that free-kick. I don't know why our fans go to such pains to make stuff up, to "prove" our players are crap. This goes as far as outright lying about facts, "Giroud has been diabolical since..." and has now been extended to cover any player we are linked with like Higuain who supposedly only scores against the bottom teams in the league. It is all ****ing lies and I don't know why you post this crap. As for our Video with Szczeney completely misjudging the situation. Do I get it right that he is being blamed for a hypothetical situation that exists only in your head. That IF Koscielney had missed it and IF the ball had been in the same area, he wouldnt have saved it. Why the **** do we want 2 players going for the same ball? In fact his positioning was absolutely spot on, 100% perfect in case Kone held his run and Koscielney had over-run the ball.
You cant be serious? He's a good shotstopper but Flappy is a liability. I think he has the highest 'games per crazy mistake ratio' in the league. It's amazing how many high profile errors flappy has made already in his Arsenal career. (and he's not even a regular in the team)
They're going on the slow-motion replay of Szczesny's hand bending back when he got to the free kick. They'll ignore the real-time replay showing how fast the ball was actually going. Instead, they'll pretend he should have saved it because the ball looks so much slower in slow-motion. It's just people cherry-picking to justify their all-ready-made-up opinion. The hate for some of our players from fans on this forum is disgusting in my opinion.
Toledo, this post and suggesting to play Oxo as a DM in the same day means you should really go get some sleep right now. perfect to tickle Kone's balls after he would have headed it? WHAT THE F.CK??
Aimed at me? That doesn't make sense. Higuain is not an Arsenal player, why should I support him? Should I have supported Samba as well when we were linked with him a few years ago?
What you seem to be saying is that as long as Szeczney did not collide head first with Koscielney's boot, he was in the wrong place. As for Ox playing midfield, he was slated for that role a while back. That was what I was referring to. http://www.arsenal.com/news/news-archive/wenger-alex-will-develop-into-midfield-role
This Some people have made their minds up about our players, and they have become so entrenched with their views that it would now take a massive climb down to admit they got it wrong. So instead they will look to twist any situation in order that it supports the view that they are crap, even when the opposite is staring them in the face.
I could just copy this, change one tiny part of it, and paste it straight back to you to explain your irrational support for players: "Some people have made their minds up about our players, and they have become so entrenched with their views that it would now take a massive climb down to admit they got it wrong. So instead they will look to twist any situation in order that it supports the view that they are good enough, even when the opposite is staring them in the face." You and Toldedo can be so patronising to posters who don't share your opinions. The sooner you accept your opinion is an opinion and not fact the less aggro you'll cause.
I think he was thrown in as our no.1 too soon due to Almunia being awful, probably could have done with a couple of seasons on loan in the championship. He'll be a top keeper once he gets that consistency
Except we support Arsenal football club, and the default position is to support the players that play for this club. However, you're right to an extent. It annoys me when some people refuse to acknowledge that a player is performing badly. Ramsey was terrible for a long time, Giroud has been terrible for most of this season; yet some people refused to acknowledge that, and still do. It's not annoying when it happens once, but a couple of posters here refuse to acknowledge bad form ALL THE TIME. It prevents the discussion from going past the "is there a problem?" stage, and onto the "how can the problem be solved?" stage. That's why it annoys me.
Sorry, but they are the ones being patronizing by keeping on posting their opinions as facts. Telling us that we need sleep if we disagree with them, using phrases like "Only a fool..." and "It is obvious". The fact that I don't put up with ****, call people out when they write nonsense, and make factual errors, isn't patronizing. What annoys me is that when anyone tries to post a positive article about our players, it gets derailed by this ****, quite deliberately. As soon as you say anything positive you get an instant personal attack designed to take the thread away from discussing the matter in-hand. Szczeney has now made a game-changing save in each of the last two fixtures and has largely been error-free. That is well-worth appreciating.
