You're somebody's "uncle knobhead" the slightly funny uncle who thinks he's hilarious.

 

Laudrup for me would be an astounding appointment. But it would be a task convincing him to abandon a whole seasons progress where he has done wonders for Swansea take take a new project at Newcastle where those who run it are often criticized for their knowledge and general running of the club.

 

Can't see him leaving Swansea for us.

BREAKING NEWS

Brighton & Hove Albion manager Gus Poyet and his assistant Mauricio Taricco have been suspended with immediate effect and informed to stay away from the club.

BBC Sport's Ben Smith reports the club are conducting an internal investigation into whether Poyet may have breached his contract by making a series of comments in the wake of this week's play-off defeat by Crystal Palace.

It is understood that once the board had learned that Poyet had told his players that he could offer no guarantees about his future at the club, they took the decision to suspend him with immediate effect.

 

I see to remember another good 'young' South American manager some 22 years ago who came with a burgeoning reputation thanks to his time at Swindon Town. He was noted as playing an attracting, attacking style of play and wasn't afraid to play kids. Do we want to go down that road again?

 

By the end of February, relegation threatened, and when Newcastle offered Ardiles the chance to become their new boss, he accepted, becoming the club's first foreign manager. But his time on Tyneside was not a success and he lasted 12 months in the job before being sacked, with the Magpies bottom of the second division, though they achieved safety under his successor Kevin Keegan.

I can't see the connection between Ossie Ardiles and Gus Poyet.

From different countries, different era's and a different way of playing football.

I'm not overly keen on Poyet after looking at some of their stats - they seem quite average although finishing in the top 4 of the Championship is impressive after only just getting promoted.

Perhaps Poyet's style of play would be better suited to higher quality players?

Pardew was admitting defeat to Brighton in the FA Cup before we even kicked-off - he clearly regards Poyet as a great manager.

 

Let's not be too delusional - how many proven great managers would want to come a northern club with a past reputation for having demanding fans (even if that was a stereotype invented in Fleet Street)?

I personally want Pardew fired, as his part of this season's lacklustre campaign was plain to see every week. I can see no great things with him as boss. Last season we did make the top 5, but was the football a whole lot better? I remember too many tight scrapes where we were the best of two unentertaining teams.

Gus Poyet for me ticks most of the boxes. He's a comparison to Di Canio in the sense that he guided a financially knackered club to being top players in a lower league. He'd be a gamble as the mackems boss is for them. We're not going to get the likes of Benitez up here - he wouldn't work with our senior management who choose who to bring in. Not sure Swansea's boss would jump ship either.

 

Ardiles was a legend, the only time he never had a *** in his mouth was the 90 mins he was on the pitch....

That's the problem with players today, they don't smoke enough. I've smoked all my life and admittedly I've now got the lung capacity of a chaffinch, however I can beat any bugger at ' keepie uppies '

Until me packet of ***s runs out, it's always a bit trickier keeping the ball up walking down the road then getting on the bus to the newsagents to get another packet.

 

Wasn't Paul Ince going to be the next great manager before he got in the premier league?
Solskjaer was recently built up as a future managing legend for what reason exactly?
The press build them up then give them two games before sticking the knife in.
I think Poyet needs to bring a club up and learn from there, not walk into a premier team on his past achievements as a player.
Same as Lee Clark. Did well at huddersfield, struggled a bit at Birmingham but would be bombed out inside six months in the premiership.
In the past great players made great managers. In the past. Dalglish and Souness and Keegan could say this is what I did, learn from the best.
But the players today have changed. Mentality is different. Second division will listen to an ex pro who played at the highest level but that mentality changes the further up the league you go.

 

No cheating by taking one of those special pills though Jimmy.

 

This is a good point made here, although Gus does appear to be a good tactician, and was the brains behind Millwall getting into the League cup final, Dennis Wise had bugger all to do with the success Millwall had that year, it is a gamble but it could absolutely work, but could also go wrong when things get tough. Worth looking into.

 

I think Poyet is a big risk but that is what our next manager will be, we don't pay the A grade wages anymore. Is Pards not one of the lower paid managers in the league? Ashley is not suddenly jumping to the Rafa wages. We need to look around to the likes of Poyet or other up and coming modern managers. We have to get them before they are the big cheese.
