Guardian columnist John Crace, who has written a biography of QPR manager Harry Redknapp, is the guest on the penultimate podcast of the season. http://playbackmedia.co.uk/qprpodcast/ Anyone not concerned about Harry's tenure at our club, will be after listening to this. Be afraid..........
He was on Talksport a couple of weeks ago, Harry is the perfect subject for his type of journalism and he tells us nothing we didn't know already...
As a Spurs fan I have to say that some of this did sound about right to me. Redknapp is great with the first XI and about 5 or 6 more players after that, but the rest of the squad may as well not exist, unfortunately. Might not be an issue if you trim the squad down and have a strong youth side, but it resulted in repeated implosions towards the end of the season for us. The self-promotion and media handling is pretty accurate, too. The 'they' thing used to bug the crap out of me. The idea that he was at fault for Portsmouth's demise is ludicrous, though. Their owners lumped them with a series of problems and totally shafted their finances. Redknapp signed some very good players and they cost a bit of money, but they were sold on for far more than they cost in the first place. Diarra, Muntari and Glen Johnson went for about £50m, for a start. Bringing through youth? Wrong. Gareth Bale. Kyle Walker. West Ham. Nope. Our youth side has never looked healthier. Tactical ineptitude and being stuck on one system? We played 4-4-2 for a couple of years and 4-4-1-1 for a couple more. Outside that he struggles, but so do most managers. You don't beat both Milanese sides and win your Champions League group if you don't know what you're doing, though. If you clear out the players that don't want to be there, let him work with the ones that do and have somebody else looking after your youngsters and bringing them through, then he'll do well for you. He got Spurs playing some of the best football that I've seen and we were winning too, which is something that we've rarely combined. He's more than capable of getting you back into the top-flight and keeping you there, but the future of the club past that shouldn't be down to him. That planning has to be done by someone else at the club, freeing him up to do what he's good at.
http://www.not606.com/showthread.php/179295-Redknapp-to-be-confirmed-Monday/page6? Dug this out. Turns out loads of us weren't keen on Harold. Apart from the 'is Cerny an ITK' rubbish this is a good thread too. I have no idea why I've linked it to page 6. Apologies.
Sorry about that sb73, your link was broken for some reason. http://www.not606.com/showthread.php/179295-Redknapp-to-be-confirmed-Monday I hope you're prediction turns out correct PleaseNotPoll. I'm seriously worried about Redknapp and believe he is showing early signs of dementia.
That is an interesting insight. For me I am happy he is staying next season and I believe he should be judged on next season rather than the cards he was dealt with this season. Sure it is always someone elses fault with him but to be frank he has a point I feel.
Excellent post that is PNP. Always good to have visitors on here from other teams when they've got something interesting to contribute like this.
