Big rumours of this today with a popular Italian publication claiming we have agreed a 42.5m pound fee for Uruguayan hot shot Edinson Cavani and have tabled a 145k a week deal

What do we think of this??

My thinking is it is a bit of a transfer fee, but the wages aren't astronomical and that we must have missed out on Lewandowski to Bayern

But Cavani is a top calibre striker and has dragged Napoli into next years Champions League single handedly and he will score goals for us if we do get him

Cavani fits perfectly with Napoli's style, will he do well with Chelsea? You just have to look at his performances for Uruguay to see this.

Really because Uruguay play 3 at the back like Napoli and it doesn't work, Cavani is thrusted wide in many games for his country but he would not be expected to play there for Chelsea, we have the need for him as a striker and goal scorer only, which he would get plenty of chances to do at Chelsea

I think the days of that kind of spending are over! I want to see chances given to our very talented youth! Signing quality thats out of contract is another matter though!

I think he's a top player and would seem to suit our system as well. Big lad, good in the air, great on the ground too and young. Would be a very good signing on paper as would Lewandoski. Falcao also is brilliant but maybe the wrong side of 25 given the money being talked about.

All paper talk at the moment but I certainly wouldn't complain.

Still not convinced Dortmund will let another top player leave for Bayern though.

Aye, couldn't agree more. It's a massive risk and not sure if RA would sanction that amount after Shevchenko and Torres.... I know I certainly wouldn't.

On the other hand not sure about giving youth a chance as we don't really have a striker that is ready for the big time. Not entirely sure if Bamford is quite up to the standard and Feruz is several seasons away.

We just need a striker who can put the ball in the net without doubt

Cavani and Falcao are both very expensive as is the I heard unsettled Sergio Aguero

Lewandowski would be perfect price wise and talent wise

But after that is there a striker of same calibre and same or lower price, I don't think so and I don't think Chelsea would gamble on unproven

Christian Benteke, Wilfried Bony, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Jackson Martinez, Marco Reus, Mario Gomez, Javier Hernandez?????

I think experience has told us that it's going to be a gamble anyway - proven or unproven. Indeed, virtually all of our ~20-30million signings have proved to be astute - from Drogba and Essien, to Hazard and Oscar. This is the price mark we should be aiming for - 45m is waaaay too much.

Cavani is a great striker, 45 is way over the top. Lukaku is worth a run and Torres showed what he can do with good through ball. Spend on a midfielder maestro, and we'll have goals galore from all our front men.

There was another article claiming De Bruyne wants to join Dortmund but we told Dortmund they can't have him unless we get first option on Lewandowski

Smart business for once if true
