He started well and faded really, a bit like Tettey. We certainly need another competitive full-back, as Whittaker is frequently injured leaving us with Rusty and Garrido.

Would love to see Naughton back to round out or full-back options.

Good to get it sorted now. Perhaps he'll lift his game against his old team on Sunday! Get in Javier!

    Yawn!

He best not be our main LB next season! With the new money coming in we can definitely afford better!

Worth having but needs competition to keep him fresh. Tierney isn't that option so I see him departing and someone else coming in to give us a viable alternative to Garrido.

Another full back and I'm happy. I'm not entirely trustful of most loanee's and after the Roeder years you can't blame me for that. I always find that once players get that contract they lift their game that bit more, because they care a lot more about the club. If he can reproduce the same form he had during that unbeaten run then it's a great addition to the squad.

I'm pleased we've kept him, as far as I'm concerned left back position needs nothing more, Tierney and Garrido are perfectly good enough for us.

Do you think MT has a future then? Was assuming he would be off. Not convinced we could rely on him for any long period of time if JG is injured

I think a lot of you are being a bit harsh on Garrido. His positional play is excellent, often mopping up round the back of the central defenders when required, like good full backs should do. He also holds a good line along with the rest of the back four that Tierney could only dream of doing!

He is competent and reliable, playing well in a pretty solid back five so why waste millions on a full back when we need to throw some serious money in the direction of some creative midfield players?

    Sorry Carrabuh,

You think Tierney is good enough? Have you seen him play, ive seen him twice, at Fulham and in the cup. He was useless in both.

I completely agree with this. Even his poor performances I felt were usually due to being consistently defending two men on him because whoever was in front of him was not helping at all. He is, at worst, adequate.

I think the two year contract is telling though.

Well he's already 28 so arguably at his peak, and whilst he's adequate at the moment, if we're going to continue to improve long term then we're going to need to move above that. I'm happy with him at the moment and other areas of the team are clear priorities, but if we want to be pushing on in 3 years time then he's perhaps not the player to be doing that with. Obviously that's hoping we'll be in the position to do so, but if we're not he seems happy at the club and would probably extend his contract.

I can see us going for for Martin Olsson, rumours are we tried to get him last summer and could probably get him cheaper now Blackburn are due another year in the Championship.

I also very pleased we kept Garrido on, think he has been consistently solid all season and rarely makes a mistake. He hasn't been quite as influential going forward of late but neither has the team. I would like to add another left back in to give him competition, I don't really think Tierney is capable of pushing Garrido much for a first team place.

For what it's worth, transfermarkt reckon Garrido cost us £1.32m. That's pretty good going.

Such a shame we didn't see a return from Tierney, first 10 or so games of last season he was immense. I think a reason for Garrido's slight dip in form was the injury to Pilkington, when E Bennett was playing on the left they didn't connect as well and the confidence to over lap seemed to go. Hopefully he is back to his attacking best next year, as his best attribute is definitely his delivery.

Personally I'm happy with that. I thought he was very solid first half of the season, the kind of player who is underrated because you forget he's there but he's doing good stuff all the same. He lost his way a bit in the second half of the season, but almost everyone did except for Bassong, Snodgrass and Johnson.

Even when he lost his way slightly, which I am not disputing, he was still solid at the back and rarely made a mistake. Difficult thing to find for £1.3 Million. If that figure is true DH, I think that's a bit of a steal. I reckon we could sell Tierney for £1Mish to the right suitor.
