Yoan Gouffran dedicates his £60m goal to loyal Newcastle United fans.

Yoan Gouffran insisted that his £60million goal against Queens Park Rangers was “for the fans” after writing his name into Newcastle United’s history books.

It means that United WILL be part of a cash-laden era of top-flight football after fending off relegation at Loftus Road.

Regardless of whether the Magpies should ever have ended up in such a poor state this season, it is the French star’s goal that assured Premier League survival – and a share of the astronomical TV jackpot on offer to top-flight clubs next term.

Gouffran’s third goal for the Magpies proved to be his most important. But added to his strike at West Brom three weeks ago, his contributions have made the difference to Newcastle staying in one of the world’s best divisions.

Jubilant fans chanted: “We are Premier League” at the final whistle.

And while United stars didn’t get the chance to applaud their hardcore support, they can at least enjoy the game with Arsenal next weekend knowing they will be mixing with the big boys again.

An ecstatic Gouffran told the Chronicle: “This is so important for the players, the manager and of course our brilliant fans.

“After the game everybody was happy. Now we need to finish the game season well against Arsenal.

“Then we can really start looking towards next year. This is so important to the club.”

It was Gouffran, Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa, Moussa Sissoko, Massadio Haidara and Mathieu Debuchy who arrived on Tyneside in January to help fend off relegation.

And although only three of them were able to play their part at Loftus Road, Gouffran said: “The players have worked very hard to win this match.

“They were strong and worked hard to get the points.

“We’re happy to win the game. I think they deserved it.”

Gouffran did not want to take personal glory, and instead dedicated the moment to the supporters.

He said: “Of course I was happy to score, especially as it won the game and the result was so important to the club.

    “It was a good moment.

“The game was very difficult. The last few minutes were difficult, but we held on to win. We are there now.”

Meanwhile, Steven Taylor is hoping to recover from illness to take part in the Magpies’ final game of the season with Arsenal.

Next Sunday's encounter with the Gunners is set to be another complete sell-out at St James' Park.

    From the Chronicle.

His work rate is fantastic. He was all over yesterday so not surprised he was knackered. He just needs to pace himself next season and he will be fantastic.

If lessons have been learned this season, we should have a fantastic season next season.

it's crazy to see we are only 3 points from 10th place.

It's been a strange season and as ever with newcastle, they keep it interesting for us poor fans :)
