Does this give us an advantage? I think so. Never will we have as good a chance of winning something... anything.
No because all three of our teams will still have the better starting XIs and squads overall. Things would have been so much different for Arsenal had Song, Fabregas and van Persie still been at the club.
... and stand a good chance of winning more points this season without Song and Van Persie than last season with them.
Having a better team on paper doesn't mean results, that's down to management. Look at United, on paper that isn't the strongest team by any means, and even over the years United on paper haven't had the best looking team, but it's always been down to SAF that's made them so successful. Last season most would argue that Chelsea had a better team than Arsenal on paper, yet in the league you came 5th, while we ended up 3rd.
jose will buy; city will buy; united will buy; Arsenal will have to buy to keep up as will spurs...the difference is spurs and arsenal have NEVER spent more than £16m on a single player...the others have spent over £30m on a player countless times...I suspect that the north Londoners will maybe go to £20m at a push but the others will spend higher and buy more players. The good thing for Arsenal is that they are not going to lose a key player this summer...the same can not be said of spurs so we may be weakened so any spending will keep us standing still.
Arsenal have paid of the bulk of the stadium debt and have new sponsorship deals. Hopefully we will spend big on a couple of decent players to plug the gaps in the team. I think we have the makings of a squad that can challenge with the addition of a top class striker and strengthen midfield. We can be upthere with the right additions. Compared to last year we have added Cazorla and Podolski who I think are great additions to the squad and Giroud who hasn't lived up to expectations. We just need to replace Giroud and Id put a decent DM in place of Arteta (great player but when you strengthen someones go to go and I think Ramseys engine has contributed towards our improved form). We also got Wilshere back from a year out so I think he will continue to improve next season. Mert has emerged as (imo) our first choice CB and is the best partner for either Kos or TV. Szcz did well on his return from injury/form problems and the challenge of Fabianski can only help both. A new keeper is a luxury but not imo essential unless anyone leaves. So the top striker and DM is my summer wish list and then any strengthening of the squad to replace players who are rumoured to be leaving.
Bent was actually £15m rising to £16.5m. Bad enough, but we did make our money back on him, somehow. Sunderland then made a profit on his sale. Poor old Villa. Modric was £16.5m, though.
Yep about the same amount as arsharvin...now can we get this back on to the point of the thread...remember...play nicely ... I aint hiag
£15m rising to £17m. One of our most expensive players ever. Third, I think. Can't even get into Blackburn's relegation battlers now.
Well that makes it ok then That must go down as the worst signing in our history...he did 1 decent thing when he scored against you lot from 40 yards in the 4 4 match in 2008...but no matter how funny that game was for us (we were 4-2 down on 88 minutes) it werent worth the amount we paid for him. Another great signing by our then director of football...thank **** he was sacked and ended up at liverpool or we could have spent 20m on downing and 35m on carrol
Where is bently these days? He must be near the end of his contract now surely? I take it talk of an extension is unlikely lol.
He was on loan to FC Rostov in the Russian top-flight for the first half of the season, then he went out to Blackburn for the rest of it. Surely you watched him playing against you at the Emirates? http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/21449125 Came on about ten minutes before... well, you know.
