Over the last few years we have had some poor managers at Sunderland, but how does MON match up to those?

Well in one year he spent over 30million.. From that we got arguably one good player, that being fletcher. From the rest:
Johnson.. Been okay, but for 10mill+ he's still got a lot to do.
Graham.. 5mill would be better spent on re painting the SOL seats.
Ndiaye.. Wasn't the right type of player to sign in January, could come good but failed to make a substantial impact.
    Cueller.. Unpredictable
Saha.. Could have been okay, but MON didn't give him a chance.
Rose.. Fantastic but not out player.

So despite inheriting a below average squad from Bruce, Martin shelled out 30mill for the above players.. And by doing that he nearly landed us in the championship.

The team wasn't up to scratch, but the tactics he used caused us to play the worst football I've seen at Sunderland for a long time. Always refusing to give the talented Connor wickam a chance, and sticking with the over weight and incredibly bad Titus bramble didnt improve things.

I always wanted Martin to do well, but I'm glad he's gone, because he was taking us down.

Now I know we've had some bad managers, but the majority of them had little or no investment. Where does Martin put himself on your list?

Disagree with N'diaye. Every time I have seen him I have been impressed. Need the right (ball playing and attack minded) partner along with(not my choice but it will be) Cattermole and the middle will be canny. The rest, I kind of agree with.

The truth is, MON had a good couple of months when he first come, but ultimately, he was a failure.

He spunked about 30m, and never improved us one jot. His tactics were unbelievably negative and it started to drive some fans away. The best thing we done was finish him and got Paolo in, and thats hard to say about any Sunderland supporter, which MON is, but its best for the club that hes gone.

we were going down with bruce, we were (still might) be going down with MON, bruce still pips MON as the worst for me like (out of the last 2 managers, depends how far back we are looking, wilkinson was the pits, agree with everything except N'Daiye btw

Bruce was the better manager at Sunderland, out of the two.

Bruce played better football and was better in the transfer market.

The pdc effect... I don't know how you can say Bruce is worst. Look at the signings and excitement he brought to the SOL
    Bent
    Mig
    Sess
    Gyan
    Catts
    JOS
    Welbeck
    Muntari

They arnt signings of a bad manager. We had exciting times under Bruce, and much preferred his team and style than MONs.. Ultimately he had to go, but atleast he excited us along the way.

its a tough one tbh marra, thinking back to when bruce got the boot we were appaulling as we were when mon got the boot.

bent & gyan gone, fooked v fletcher & Johnson, Mon wins
cana & catts, vaughan, gardner v N'Daiye, mon wins

so many things to take into consideration, bruce pips it for me

Mon was tinkering away, clearing out in little steps, improving the team, but failing miserably on the pitch imo, still dont know what the **** he was thinking selling campbell and buying graham like.

like i say its a really tough one for me but its 52/48 in bruces favour when all considered for me like, not much in it at all, what a **** few years we've had

It's sad that deciding who was worse out of mon and Bruce is such a tough question. I still have difficulty believing that we've never played more unattractive or more unentertaining football than under mon, since the wilko and McCarthy (EPL) days. They can at least point to budget issues and being low-rep managers. As for mon, I'm at a loss to explain. Even when we won, I felt unfulfilled. I can only imagine what must have been going through the players' minds. I still can't hate mon, I'm just gutted.

If bruce had been able to manage the clash of ego's of gyan and bent maybe we would not have capitulated as we did, very, very bad piece of management imho and the start of his undoing, that situation alone sways it for me

you see, but then i think of our inability to break down 10 men on 4 occassions and not scoring v 11 for so long this season and i sway back towards mon, the qpr game at home and away, the norwich game, boro in the cup, its been ****ing **** bar, west ham, man city and reading at home under mon this season like, without pdc we would have likely been on 31 points and reading would still have hope, now thats abysmal

Edit : actually reading wouldnt but its still a **** thought

And if my aunt had a cock she'd be my uncle. Can't really blame this season on that mate. We've been woeful all season apart from a few bright spots, as PDC Effect says. We deserve to be where we are for many reasons, but I wouldn't blame it on not having those 3. Bent would have fecked off by now regardless

N'Diaye may well turn out to be the greatest signing we've made in many a long year.

He's got so much potential. Would love to see him push forward more and use his size and strength. His game's improved since he's been with us and he's got more to come.
