Can I play as well please? I must be decent cos the last time I played at SJP I skinned Peter Beardsley and he kicked me later on in the game out of frustration...dirty bastard !

Might need all you 606ers to club together for me airfare from Oz tho ! I'm good for it...honest !

Damn right I wouldn't. I wouldn't be so daft to read that much into it or try and lay our failings at someone elses door. If they are stupid enough to do so, more fool them. As I say maybe he shouldn't have said it but the reaction of some is nothing more than a big bandwagon jumping session. I guarantee if it was a different scenario and we'd qualified for the champions league and our position would certainly not change regardless of result, then he'd said it, not many would have batted an eyelid and would have defended him.

Also if you don't get enough points to stay in the league or qualify for the CL by the last day of the season, its no good looking around for something else to cling to or someone else to blame. You end up where you deserve to end up. Its like when people moan about a team who makes a European final when they get to the end of the season playing a weakened side to rest players. "integrity of the league" and all that horseshit. Basically **** off. You got yourself in the ****, not some other club. Any manager is entitled to play any team they like.

The reality is any club will be playing to win because there is money at stake and because they are professionals. Some throw away comment in the press is neither here nor there, people are way over sensitive and just looking for problems.

I'd have paid for your airfare, but not after you've knocked Pedro.

What he should have said was " I can't begin to tell you how relieved I now feel after the difficult season we've all had, I hold my hands up and admit that hindsight is a wonderful thing and I'd do things differently if faced by similar scenarios in the future. I'm now looking forward to the Arsenal game to show those whinging buggers on not606 that Warm Pouch, jimileysbaldhead and a couple of others know a decent manager when they see one, furthermore if my tactical nous can't get the better of Arsene Wenger then I'll show my bare arse in Fenwicks "

I think that would have endeared him to the doubters on here for his honesty.

You're missing the point, if you field a weakened team to win a trophy there is a difference because yes you always look after your own clubs interests first and foremost. However to openly admit that you don't care if you lose the next game because you basically have nothing else to play for is a disgrace to the club, the fans, the players, your employer (MA & DL), the league and the profession.

Yes it was tongue in cheek and yes you finish where you deserve to finish but you can tell that Pardew for once has realised he's been a prick because he's come out to clarify those ridiculous comments today.

Bottom line is he likes the sound of his own voice too much and has done ever since he won manager of the year. It probably started in the build up to the last game of last season away at Everton when before the match he claimed "we're operating in a different league to them". You then have the "they can only dream of playing in Europe" after the Sunderland game along with the "some of the criticism was too harsh following the Sunderland game and that led to a poor peforrmance today" in his post match interview after we'd just been smashed at home 6-0 to Liverpool.

So how many "throw away" comments is he allowed to make before we start pulling him up on them??? And they're only three examples off the top of my head, I know for a fact there are plenty more.

You can't be for real? he hasn't done that at all unless you are completely misunderstanding the point he was making. He was saying he was relieved that we were staying in the league, nothing more, nothing less. His phrase for describing this feelingmay have been slightly ill judged but lets not dress it up into something it isn't to suit some silly witch hunt. We all know what he meant. As I say if said at any other time but when people are a bit over emotional, no one would be bothered.

He undoubtedly, like all managers, says some silly things at times in the press. The only thing he needs pulled up on is his poor performance in getting results though. Name me a manager and I'll give you a plenthora of silly soundbites. Martinez - the McManaman tackle comments, comments about the ref Oliver that time. SAF - Too many to consider!!! Dalglish - Racism comments and countless others. Rafa Benitez - Where to start? "Facts" maybe? Di Canio - facism, and goodness knows what else. Keegan - His on screen implosion. Poyet - Suarez comments.

Mountain and molehill spring to mind.

It's not a witch hunt, it's judging him on performances from this season and not years gone by. Anyway we both know we'll never agree on Pardew so may as well stop the debate here before it drifts that way <laugh>

I don't mind him being judged on performances, but I don't believe silly comments made in the media is the way to judge a manager. Otherwise we'll have to go without one because they all do it. :emoticon-0105-wink:

Pards is a gonna for me. I bet Mike has already turned down his last 3 requests to play golf and switched his mobile number, he'll be getting permanent answer machine.................I was gonna say its like the Rose Royce song

But its probably more like Big Egos by Dre "You look like AC Green. Bitch don't call here anymore. With feet like Ben Vereen's Bitch don't call here anymore" <laugh>
