Just thought. Nicola oversees the running of all of the Liebherr companies, if I remember correctly. This is possibly bigger than just his Saints involvement.

So, power struggle. Which doesn't suggest that this will end amicably.

ehh... if I were the Trust I would also want to leave Cortese hanging a bit because he did screw up with how he handled the Adkins affair, and LeTiss and he generally gets his name in the paper for too many negative reasons. And he just seems like the kinda guy who needs some gentle reminding from time to time about who is in charge.

And if I were Cortese, I would be okay with these rumors being floated out, exactly the way they seem to be. It's not so much "Cortese wants more money; makes outrageous demands" but more like he is thinking over whether he wants to do this anymore. All of a sudden, the fans are forced to contemplate his departure and by doing so, realize what he means to the club. Which improves his public image immensely (and doesn't hurt in getting the control/money he wants).

So this is really kind of a good thing for both sides, and really even for the fans as we think about what is important. In the end, hopefully everyone realizes how good things are. And maybe Cortese gets the salary and control he wants, but they convince him to hire an assistant/personal handler of some kind so he doesn't rub as many people the wrong way.

Do you know I wandered how long it would take for the rumours of unrest to rear it's ugly head. As for the family to sell the club their stance hasn't changed since the death of our benefactor. We had all these rumours of our beloved club being sold and that Cortese was leaving because the Family wanted to sell etc, last year. It has come a tad early this year so I guess we are in for a summer of will he won't he.....Followed of course by will they or won't they........Here we go again..........

It's not Cortese that gets his name in the papers when it comes to Le Tiss/Benali etc, it's them (I say them, I mean Matt) shooting their mouths off.

What concerns me is that should Cortese leave (and I hope to God he doesn't), the reverberations through the club - Mauricio, it would appear, signed up for the job because of Cortese and the vision he had for the club. Should that vision be disrupted or diluted by the current owners, to the point that NC goes, how long do you imagine we'll be able to hold on to the likes of MP?

    Ah yes, that's it.

I doubt MP leaves. If anything he might like it a little better as he has acknowledged NC is a tough guy to work with. I mean, it's not like the new chairman is going to come in and say "My vision for this club is to see us get relegated." The chairman will come in saying all the right things, the owners will affirm their goals. Most people are reasonable and will give them a chance.

Whether the new chairman is any good or if it works out is a different issue. But it's not like everyone just going to leave right away.

Granted, but it feels like an unnecessary and disruptive turn of events, particularly if, as DTLW has posted, it's down to potential disputes over future investment.

Apparently the fact that Pochettino hasn't learnt English yet means he's on the way out.

Hope that Cortese remembered to save before selecting the "if this request isn't granted, I'm not sure that I can carry on with my job" dialogue option.

I've had 45 years of Saints being also-rans and punching above their weight, with the odd sniff of success, and I'm seriously not ready or prepared to go back to doing that.

Kris Temple from BBC Radio Solent has shared this, from Will Cope - Sports Reporter and Journalism Lecturer:

"My understanding is that the Liebherr children/estate have NEVER had the same belief in Cortese that their father did"

Surely the new FFP rules mean there has to be prudence in our transfer dealings ? I know Cortese was against this but they are in place now so he wouldn't be able to spend ridiculous amounts anyway.

That's not what it is about as I understand it. It's about the Chairman being able to drive all the decisions without any accountability to the Liebherrs . If it's the trust's money, it makes sense that they should share that accountability. It also makes sense for Cortese to seek information on how that will work in practice. If he feels that the shackles will constrain him to the point where he cannot achieve his objectivers, then it would make sense for him (or Liebherrs) to walk away.
