Too my knowledge they dont. those paying rent with housing benefit for living in houses bigger then they need get a reduction in their benefit. If the people in houses bigger than they actually need move out into something small er then let a family in that need the space. A friend of my ex mrs lives in London, has three kids and the council provide her with a one bed flat in an absolute ****hole of a place. If people that have places bigger than they need then they should be swapped into something smaller.
You make it sound so simple. Some of these people have lived in these houses for decades. They have family and friends nearby. Their medical care is nearby. Their social care is nearby. Other facilities they use and need are nearby. You're asking people to simply uproot and possibly move to another area and making it sound like it's nothing. I go back to compassion. Where the **** is it?
Aye, but thats no my point. My point is no everyone speaks to their family or has any family to look after them. Suicide was never the answer though. That doesnae mean I agree with it, in fact I think its a ****ing joke. I stay in a 3 bedroom house and have done since 2009. Only when I first moved in were all my rooms occupied. Why should I give up all the work and money I've done on my house (carpets, decorating, garden, attic flooring) so that someone who might not look after the house can have it?
Where is the compassion in young families being stuck in places far too small when there are people approaching retirement who have lived in houses for years brought up families in them and they have all left home... Why should people getting help from the government be any different to those who do not.. Most people move house every 5 years on average. people whose family leave home and approach retirement downsize. Why should people in council houses be any different. they still get their affordable house, just a smaller one. Its like people who work in the public sector why should they get payrises and massive pensions when people in the private sector dont. public sector workers get as much of a sheltered life and dole scrounging spongers.
You asked when did this country stop being compassionate - and I tried to answer by saying it is because people abuse the system. Anyway.
we have lived in the family home for 22 years, when me and the brothers move out, my mum wont be able to afford to stay in the 4/5 bedroom family home, so she will downsize to a little 1 bedroom place. this is the way it works in the private sector, why should taxpayers who are already struggling to pay for themselves, pay for this woman to stay in a big house with unused rooms when young families with a couple of kids could benefit?????
No man is an island. She topped herself and well done to her for having the guts to do so. It's one less mouth to feed. It took balls.
Housing Association house. I checked the housing associations website everyday for 6 months to get this house.
