Today has been a great day to be a canary, and i find myself pretty merry now, however i think todays win should be placed in context. If west brom had been in a position where they needed the points they would have been unrecognizable from the team we faced today. All of them looked uninterested, and with no desire to get injured before trotting off on their holidays. Lukaku was woeful and didn't both to hassle anyone, and their crossing was to a man useless. We beat a team today who didn't want to play. We played well, so we beat them well, but this won't be an indicator of any of our games next year. Our players to a man did much better today, and i hope that Hughton realises that approaching any 50/50 games (especially at home) as must wins will get the best from our players. Bennett continues to look much more mature at the back, and Snodgrass is something else when hes on song. Easily our best player for me. Holt worked hard, and had a good game, but if he's with us next year i expect him to number 3 on the striker list. We had so many chances/half chances today, and won't get so many next year when teams are fighting again. I don't think Holt can be relied upon to convert those moments so often now. I'm over the moon that RVW will now happen ( and i like his tweeting along with the game) and hope we strengthen more in the summer. Not sure if we'll get anything at man city now though, as they'll be very keen to appease their disgruntled fans before the seasons out.
I think Hoolahan deserves praise too, he was superb today. His passing was good and he made chances, he didn't lose possession half as much, he was hassling defenders and he actually tried his luck from distance!
The context is, we won so who gives a ****. A season is 38 games and we all play one another and we've accumulated, by hook or by crook, enough to mathematically stay up.
Personally i do, and id imagine when the coaching staff and players debrief this season and prepare for the next, they will too.
How are we supposed to allow for playing teams that are un-motivated because they have nothing left to play for? We don't pick who we play, you seem to be suggesting we not be happy with beating West Brom and it doesn't count as much as if we'd faced them in the middle of the season.
I liked that RVW was watching along like us and probably has seen more than just that game. That seems quite invested in the move and the club and not just the payday.
Its relevant WBA were on the beach, but we still had to put them away, and we did it in style Don't forget they would have been a bucket load of pressure on the team and manager today that could have completely backfired if we hadn't got any early ish goal But also, I take the point battersea. Why didn't we beat toon, qpr and fulham at home? I heard ch on talk ****e and he sounded quite bullish on plans for next season, I think we have a lot to lok forward too
We should definitely be happy, ecstatic even! I'm suggesting we were lucky (something we've been overdue) with how fixtures worked out that west brom had so little to play for when we had so much. If we'd faced them in the middle of the season it would have been a different game, and i'd expect them to have pushed back more when we went ahead.
i love that he's throwing himself behind the cult status of Grant Holt already! shows a lot of respect.
agreed, we were due more than a little! (this game balances out the arsenal game for me, still plenty of others to be addressed with a cheeky win at the etihad!)
Well, until he displaces Holt from the starting XI and leaves him stuck on the bench... It's going to be interesting how we play next season, because 4-2-3-1 can definitely work if the players are given the correct instructions, but 4-4-2 with Holt and RvW looks tasty.
I think both will be needed next year depending on opposition But the physicality and work rate of Holt and the technicality and flair of Van Wolfswinkel.... Mother May I!
A yard to the right and that could easily of been one of the goals of the season. I thought both Hoolahan and Howson were amazing today, Hoolahan was constantly finding space out manoeuvring their defence and Howson helped to bind the midfield and attack together, he was all over the place.
Stop being such a party pooper...you can only beat what is in front of you! Hughton has passed an extremely challenging scenario, "You have just replaced perhaps the most successful manager that Norwich have ever had. The fan favourite and leading goalscorer over the last 3 years has handed in a transfer request. You have just £10m to improve the squad as you see fit.Your task is to survive at all costs. During the season, your strikers will suffer an extreme loss of form, your goalkeeper will be ruled out for 6 months through injury, the fans will question your ability and your nerve will be tested to the absolute limit with a barren run containing just 2 wins in 19." When you look at it that way, I'd say he has done brilliantly to keep us up.
