Has to be Garth Crooks. is he intimating we have **** fans now.....Garth Crooks, BBC Final Score "Sunderland are in a relegation dogfight and they need all the support they can get. Aston Villa's fans were instrumental in putting their shoulder to the wheel and helping it turn round. Footballers are affected by support, or lack of it." so 40,000 turning up today isn't good enough? can't stand the prick, personally. and not just because of this, but his allround ****e punditry.
obviously i wasn't there, but it sounded pretty noisy on tinternet tv. just nervous/edgy or negative. if our lot were slating graham tho, what's the point in that. it doesn't help our cause.
There was a 10 minute burst of noise, and shortly after we scored. That says it all to me, an atmosphere lifts the players. Apart from that, nothing mate.
We draw against spurs and we're safe!! Thus us a scenario I'd be happy with.. Wigan win both games and we draw with spurs... Villa go down! I can dream. I'd rather it was sorted before then!!
Vicious circle. Team under performs gets bad results, fans get nervous make less noise (or boo/negative energy), players feel it and dont get that lift, under perform even more etc etc Its worse at sunderland than anywhere else, cos the fans expect the worst (after so many seasons of getting used to it) and as soon as things arent all rosy they get nervous and this effects home form. Reckon we would have got better results against Stoke and Soton if we played them away. We play well at home against big teams, cos we dont heap any pressure on our players and us fans are bricking it.
If I knew in advance that you would get a result against Tottenham then yes I would prefer it went to the last game. I think you'd start next season on a more positive footing if you secured your safety yourselves by getting a result against a top team. However, you'd have to be insane to want Wigan to win on Tuesday, shame though as I'd love it for Villa to go down. The most hated fans in the league? ps. Between Newcastle and Sunderland we have 90k+ fans who turn up week in week out for teams who never win anything and barely even challenge in recent years and yet the BBC only ever seem to comment when they think the fans are letting the team down. I don't agree with leaving early but the amount of coverage a couple of weeks back when fans were leaving in the liverpool game - a terrible run of form, an utter tonking at home and a player intentionally getting himself sent off so he could leave early too ; I don't think there's a ground in the world would have been full at the end of that match.
