I can't remember the last time we had a chant that was so ****. Surely there must be other songs that don't sound so bad? Also, Liverpool songs general. What are your favourites (besides the obvious YNWA and Fields of Anfield Road) and least favourites over the years. Favourite: Best midfield in the world (because at the time it felt true, what a cracking team we had in 09) Worst: Coutinho chant by a mile.
The best midfield in the world chant was prior to 2009. It involved Sissoko who left the club in 2008. Mascherano (the last of the four to arrive) joined in January 2007 so I'm guessing it was the 2007-08 season Definitely my favourite too always like the simple: Oh Sami Sami, Sami Sami Sami Hyypia too
We've got the best midfield in the World, Momo Sissoko, Xabi Alonso, Gerrard & Mascheranooooooooo That was an awesome midfield to be fair. Just a shame it was 4 central midfielders and none of them were wingers
Woops, I just genuinely associate it with the time when Rafa really looked like making us Premier League champions in the near future. 2005-2009 was a hell of an exciting time to be a Liverpool supporter for people of my generation.
Used to love the Fernando Torres song and the Rafa Benitez song, The Maxi Rodriguez song was class too, currently my favorite is probably the Suarez song.
Rude question but, how old are you? Just wondered since you said the bit in bold. My age is on the right and I'd have to agree with you. However, I loved the footy under Roy Evans
Blimey, not only do you have more threads per page than everyone else, you've also got it back to front.
I'm guessing the Rafa years were your initiation years (so to speak) then? Bit like me with Roy Evans. I liked footy before but Roy's reign was the time I really got into it and became obssessed
I started liking football around the 2002 World Cup then started supporting Liverpool because my older brother and Grandad supported them, no other footballing influence in my family really, my Dad hates the game. So I missed out on the 2001 treble and supported Liverpool through the dodgy last bit of Houllier's reign. I remember being annoyed that this Spanish guy had been given the job when we should have given Phil Thompson a chance! I was young though tbf. It's for that reason players like Riise, Biscan, Hamann, Henchoz, Baros, Murphy et al (alongside Carra, Hyypia and Gerrard of course) will always be remembered particularly fondly by me. They were the first real Liverpool team I supported.
I'm with Gerrez on the age time frame and the Evans era is what got me. I know he is a Judas ( to many) but the torres song was one of, if not the best, player songs I have ever heard. So catchy, the bounce, the raucus, and with him at the helm we had serious belief in our front line. worst song: coutinho is up there but I wasn't mascherano's to the tune of the white stripes seven nation army? " Jaaaavier Mascheraaaaaaaaano". Think the special players should get a bit more umph if you will to their songs.
got to say the maxi lopex song was a good tune that I was singing it on the way home, and im a ffc fan, but he did score a hatrick that day
Yeah the Mascherano song was poor too, it just had a habit of tailing off. The best songs for me are the ones where they seem to get louder after every rendition, the Maxi song is one where it can last for a few minutes, the Luis Garcia song does this too as did the best midfield in the world. The songs where you're already anticipating singing it again before it's ended are by far the best.
**** I miss the Torres song mate... " We bought the lad from sunny spain, he gets the ball he scores again, FERNANDO TORRES, Liverpool number 9! nah nah nah nah nah nah nah NAH NAH nah nah nah nah nah nah NAH NAH NAH NAH" shame, really is.
