Just had a thought and wanted to know your opinion. Looking at Wigan they have clearly found some decent players from abroad and probably not spent a **** load on them either.. (Kone cost the same as Nick P) Now we have a few links with Egypt and I reckon that Bruce likes home grown players but if we were to dip into a league/nation in the world to source the next benteke... where would you go look? I think sometimes that's the best way to get great upcoming talent. Home grown always costs x3 more than abroad but with Foreign players there's always a doubt on whether they can adapt to our league (or is that bollox?) Like I said I don't think it's Bruce's style but I would like to see us buy cheaper abroad... I honestly think it's the way to go for promoted teams (soton, wigan and swansea ) you can sometimes find a gem and make a **** load profit. Personally, spanish/south american players always seem to do alright in our league and it would suit our new style of play but there's some interesting leagues... some great talent in scandinavia in the dutch league also.
Racism right through this thread. So you want Brucey to learn the languages of about 50 different countries, just so he can sign a player. Way too much pressure on a working class Geordie. Bum chin can translate if he goes to Italy to sign an Italian but after that.....
Us Brits don't learn foreign languages. We just learn to speak English slowly/distinctly and loudly, with the required hand gestures. Its held us in good stead for generations.
Switzerland is the next Belgium coming up in International football. However for me, i've been saying for years that the teams with decent players is the Norse countries, Denmark, Norway, Sweden & Finland. There are good players everywhere though, I just hope we don't see too many Africans come in due to the ACN, this is why it would be dangerous to sign too many Egyptians & rely on them.
belgium, spain, south america, s korea, eygpt, s africa, honduro place jozy was born, serbia, croatia, denmark, ivory coast, japan. too many with quality players whos players seem to do well over here
I assume you mean Haiti. TBH the carribean is a bit of a hit & miss when it comes to players. Mainly in the PL standard you would realistically only look at Jamaica & T&T on a regular basis.
Well I have guys that work for me from Honduras, El Salvador, and Mexico and they are all huge football fans they were yacking on about Wilson Pelacios ages before he went to England. I will ask them on Monday about who are the best players in their countries and let you know what they say, then just have a word in Brucies shell like and see what we can do. See this scouting thing is a breeze eh might take it up full time if it works out
Don't know where he comes from, but if Wigan are relegated, can we go in for Roger Espinoza.Thinking on....he looks native American. Possibly Apache. Oh and Mcmanaman he's good.
Espinoza is from Honduras but was brought up in the US. He looked really good from times to times, but as you said, made some mistakes. Which actually most of the Wigan players made. McManaman looked class, but if he plays like that I'm not sure whether we could attract him (and he's only 22 btw).
Welcome to the board Masterd28 He did make a few mistakes, but when your involved as much as he was yesterday, your bound to. Looks class imo.
Cheers! Been a silent reader for a long time but wanted to get involved since I'm moving abroad soon.
I think the chances of picking up a real gem on the cheap from overseas is pretty remote. Obviously there are always exceptions, Michu being a prime example, but all the 'big' clubs have such a refined scouting system all over the world now that even kids as young as 9 or 10 that are showing any signs of potential are already snapped up.
