Villa did lose, so a draw would make us safe. Edging closer.

It would be nice if we could grasp our own destiny today, rather than relying on other results. I'm pleased that the intense pressure of last week has been eased slightly, but a bit concerned we've lost our cutting edge in front of goal. Hope the lads start at full throttle & try to make the crown anxious.

An interesting scenario : QPR 1 Newcastle 0,Arsenal 3 Wigan 0. Wigan 1 Villa 0 , Newcastle 2 Arsenal 3. Leaving the bottom like this:

Newcasle 38 points GD -25 Goals Scored 45

Wigan 38 points GD -25 Goals scored 45

Has there been a situation such as that in modern football that went to a tiebreaking playoff?

Not that I am aware of,and of course there are many other scores that could give the same outcome. One possibility is that it could be to either Newcastle's advantage to score more as long as they only lost by one or for Wigan just to win regardless of the number of goals they let in.

Lucky for Newcastle they are playing the most gutless team in Europe with the most disinterested manager in the world in charge.

I have a sneaky little feeling that QPR will get a win.

Last game at home, no pressure and their mercenaries wanting to put themsleves in the shop window for next season. Coupled with playing against a side that will be nervous as they will feel this is must win. With Arsenal next, Newcastle may not get another point this season so this is massive for them.

Really hope The Geordies dont go down. The Mackems too are a decent lot.I like The Saints and think that Lambert deserves to survive at Villa so that leaves the poor old Pie Eaters by default.Of course if push comes to shove anybody but us.

We wouldn't be mathematically safe as we could lose by an unlikely huge margin (over 10 goals) against Stoke for Villa to go back above us.

    Unfortunately, I cannot see it.

Why on earth would Harry want to bring Newcastle down with them? That would just make their task next season harder, as Newcastle would be near certain of a top two position.

If he can help to bring Wigan down with them, or at the very least Norwich, then I can see him doing so. And clearly handing Newcastle three points falls right bang into that.

I don't think they would try and throw the game though, so still fancy a QPR win but see where you are coming from and its a good point. It is Redknapp tho so i guess you never know.

A little like the Spurs fans last week who thought Fergie fielded a weakened side against Chelsea just to scupper Spurs chances of finishing top 4 so Bale would then move to UTD in the summer.

Who'd bet against Wigan beating Arsenal? Well, I probably would but you know what I mean. This has been such a topsy turvy season that anything could still happen.

Yes, I think Harry's starting XI will be very telling. He's already started weakened it in recent weeks, by bringing Green and Ben Haim in.

Remy and Townsend are the wildcards, so long as they play; both are auditioning in a big way, and both have demonstrated the talent to be match winners. If QPR does nothing more than dawdle in their own end for 90% of the game and Remy comes up with a couple big moments, they might win. Certainly worked against us, at least.

We have a three-horse race on our hands. Wigan, Villa, Sunderland.

Wigan fail to beat Arsenal on Tuesday, and it's all over. But if they do, then we have our Wigan-Villa last day shoot-out, with Sunderland stuck in the middle with a tricky game at White Hart Lane.

And now there are three: only Sunderland, Villa and Wigan are still in contention for the Championship.

Southampton and Fulham are on the same points as Villa.

But this is one of those situations where GD is worth an extra point!

But we exceed them in goal differential by a huge amount. We're not in contention because we're not going to lose to Stoke by double-digits, and neither will Fulham lose by a similar margin.

Yes would take a total disaster to send us down. We are 99.99999% safe.
