Of all the clubs currently in the mix I think Wigan going down would be best for us. That's based on their squad being picked off by other PL clubs, their having to rebuild and, most importantly, their involvement in the Europa League. A 46 match season plus the extra games with lots of travelling won't help their cause. They are a far better team than ourselves and Reading so this would level the playing field. All we now need is Harry to wheel and deal and we might just challenge, that said, there are still a number of teams down there that will be in with a shout next season, Bolton, Blackburn and a very sad Wolves have shown it's no cake-walk...
I thought that as well, with all the extra games for the Europa League they'll be knackered. Then someone pointed out Birmingham to me. They made the playoffs whilst in the Europa League last season. Hughton said the nice trips abroad every few weeks helped lift the spirits after relegation which was a boost for performances.
Wigan in the Championship, if still under Martinez, even less a few players will still be a tough nut to crack.
I know that, clutching at straws again. You look at how they are a TEAM, makes our lot look shameful...
Wigan are the sort of team I would expect to finish halfway down in the championship if they go down They look like they will go down now with Arsholenal away next game
Why does everyone seem to think Martinez is such a great manager? He took over at a poor side and hasn't taken them forward.
I think they'll lose Martinez if they go down, probably to Everton. Then he's likely to poach Cone and a few others. That should make them a lot worse off imo.
I could see that as a possibilty. Despite the Liverpool connection, also wonder how Benitez might go down there, especially after putting in a good shift at Chelsea.
