In the days of the monarchy in Italy the King had an elite guard consisting of 99 soldiers. Subsequently anything really special or first class was known as "99". When Cadbury launched its small Flake for ice creams in 1930, the UK ice cream industry was dominated by ex-pat Italians. So, to appeal to Italians they called their Flake a "99".

Don't ask me why I know that

Nothings more than 10 minutes away in Guernsey! Or Jersey for that matter!
I swear we have more ice cream vans over here than any other kind of vehicle!

You are correct on both accounts! Nice isn't it? Lets face it you can never have too many ice cream vans about the place :)

There's an ice cream man around here who is often seen out and about in the early hours of the morning.... He's got 2 vans, so we all reckon one is for actual ice creams and one is for whatever else he sells!

That's it. Queued up like taxis. When the first one runs out of 99's it drives off and the next one takes its place. There will be another rank like this a few miles along the coast :)

Exactly! If there's a massive queue at one of them then there's another six in the same car park to go to :D

A 99 with monkey's blood is the way forward.
Shame it's nigh on 2 quid to get one nowadays.

Seen ice cream vans down here and in Nottingham there's a taxi firm that runs some more "hardcore" stuff I found out during a night out with some uni friends!
