So much cheap, laugh-a-minute dross being suggested here. Not keen on some of the older stuff either, I guess comedy's moved in a more edgy direction so they have less effect these days.

Anyway Peep Show's my favourite (how is that not on the poll yet?!), closely followed by the Thick of It and Extras. US Office and Arrested Development are also really good, definitely the best I've seen from over the Atlantic.

I liked Father Ted but I love Mighty Boosh. Father Ted was good but would get nowhere near a best of list for me. The Boosh is just very very funny. Maybe it's just me.

Quite like Everybody Loves Raymond as well. And Frasier.

Agree that The Office is not very good. Over-rated doesn't even begin to describe it.

I would say the opposite is true. I would agree that there are more 'celebral' comedies now though.

Oh, I forgot, I used to like Brush Strokes as well. For a safe mainstream comedy it was very good.

People used to laugh at some right ****. Morecambe and Wise were massive at the time, but it's just not funny. 2 men in a bed <laugh>
    <doh>

Peep Show is very good. The wife hates it, but every episode is brilliant IMO.

It's got great endurance as well, I can't think of any other series that's lasted for seven seasons and still manages to be as good - if not funnier - than the first episodes.

And what a character Johnson is

Anybody who thinks Morcambe and Wise were not funny is dead from the neck up.
There is no debate to be had on this subject. You have no sense of humour.

Eric Morcambe was funny but the show was always spoilt by stupid guest stars and dance routines. Mind you, they weren't as bad as the Two Ronnies. They would be in the middle of a sketch and one of them would turn to the camera and go "Ladies and Gentlemen, Miss Barbara Dickson" and she'd burst into some ****e song <grr>

That and the fact that they were always doing dance routines where they were dressed as women (I'm convinced Ronnie Barker was a closet tranny).

I love the Python films, but the tv show itself was just a bit too daft for my liking. Something that also should have been mentioned:
    I'M ALAN PARTRIDGE
    ****ing brilliant.

    Ripping yarns, specifically Tompkinsons schooldays.

Scored a try at rugby and kept on running for 7 miles before the school leopard caught him.
The icebreaker in metalwork built to full scale.

    Absolutely superb.
