Ok so before I make my main point, I don't want Newcastle's dire showing this term to be used as an argument for colouring my judgement.
We have been pitiful, very very poor in my view and I completely identify them as much of a culprit as the others.

In fact our inability to profiteer from such a dire campaign is even more galling.

However, I am going to declare the 2012-2013 Premier League season as the very worst in its history – across the board.
Now, I say this encompassing every team (with some slight exceptions) from top to bottom.

I would include the general standard of play and particularly defensive play, but also some of the most shockingly bad standards of refereeing I can recall.

The champions could have effectively been crowned at Xmas suggesting a worrying lack of competition for a Man United side I wouldn't place amongst their best.
Champions League spots are being fought amongst the predictable few, who again have been pretty average at times (admittedly by their own high standards).

There's a ton of poor teams involved in relegation or only now just safe, swapping points each week and struggling for any semblance of consistency.
Above them, in 'mid table' are those that really haven't pulled up trees but just kind of achieved admirable levels of mediocrity.

My point is, it's bad and for me more noticeably then ever before. So what's gone wrong?

The Premier League for me IS NOT the best league in the world, it's the richest and perhaps that money is what's finally bursting the bubble...

What does everyone else reckon, a blip or something more serious?

    No I think it's richer...

But yeah, lots of teams, including us, are massively over-paying certain players with limited capabilities... Price of success?

What's this thing called success that you're talking of?

When you're partner refuses to give you oral until you decide to start washing it again!

    Oh wait... success... not suck-less...

I suppose it depends on perspective then yeah.

I just feel personally the quality has really dipped, and the matches that have probably proved most entertaining have been down to the wrong reasons.

When you also look at how our so-called best clubs fell seriously short in the Champs League I think that's been quite a telling yardstick too.

I think the premier league is in transition, from usual English style "hump and lump", everyone crowd around the ball and kick at it, to continental "we'll keep it longer and bore you to death" football. Tactics tactics tactics... Way more important than ever now.

In terms of competitiveness, I'd say we're about as competitive as every other major league in the era of money. It's stretched things and favoured some more than others, and some players are favoured more through nothing more than knowing someone somewhere of importance... Absolutely the general quality of players may have dropped as agents and money talk as much if not more so than the natural filter of the league system. However, I would say two things about the competition... if you were to bet every weekend upon the favourites winning each game, you probably wouldn't win a pound back unless one game was being played that weekend... and two, the past looks better when viewed from the present.

From a Norwich point of view we are nine points adrift of last season's total.Add to that we've been crap as well means a poor season for us.Hopefully see you canny lads again next season.Looking forward to the Bigg Market and a walk up the coast from Tynemouth!

Getting poorer. The league is in decline for me. We've chipped away over a number of years at the identity of our league and I think we are now reaping what we have sewn. Our failing national team and many peoples ambivalence to it is largely down to our approach. You've lost those supporters who still follow the national team in terms of genuine love of our game (we all still watch it because we love football and its what we have). You're beginning to lose the other faction who couldn't give two hoots about their national team but care passionately about their clubs.

It is horrible to utter the words as I'm not a massive fan of their club. But a few more Aston Villas would get everyone back on side. We also need to continue on this path of modernising our style of football while retaining the core values which make our football of such huge appeal.

Oh and the defending is some of the worst in Europe!!

We have a good top 7, but after that it's a ****ing ****e league.

The fact that it's so close between 10th and 18th is funny as ****. A couple of results difference is the difference between being relegated and getting a top 10 spot XD.

the Chelsea, Tottenham, Arsenal race for 3rd and 4th, and (until the swans vs wigan game) the relegation battle is incredibly exciting.

I think the point about the refereeing is the most valid. I'm not sure I've seen so many horrible decisions by referees/ officials in any other season.

I think goal line technology will help this next season, but consistency in the rules also needs to be addressed, as well as the stupidity of not being able to review decisions that the officials have 'seen' but not dealt with appropriately

Isn't the fact that so many teams are close together in the league, more exciting?

It's painful when your team is one of those struggling, but to onlookers it must be fascinating.

It suggests that the league is tight and competitive - yes, you have the top 6 or 7 who are stronger this season but what's the alternative? 10 great teams and 10 ****e one's?

It's really not as bad as many of you think.
