It will be very, very dificult for Arsenal to sign really big names at this stage. Almost impossible. We can not offer the likes of Cavani anything attractive enough - no top wages, no trophies, no world class partners. REALISTICALLY we have one option - put our faith in our current team, buy some good young backups and hope that Wenger will develop them into top players. And I bet this is exactly what is going to happen.
I do not want Villa btw. Only as a cheap short time option. He is spent, why would we need this guy. Having played for Barca he will have no enthusiasm with Arsenal, at this stage he just wants to earn some good last contract and that is it.
And AS IT ALWAYS HAPPENS Wenger will sign some players we have never heard of and never ever mentioned.

We can do so much better than the OP's suggestions.
Jovetic, Adler, Gonalons and a useful winger like Griezmann or similar. If we could ship out Vermaelen and get in Ogbonna that would be a bit of a coup. Those signings are many times superior to what you're suggesting.

Everybody is going to have their likes and dislikes and favorite players. I know the opinion of many is that we are a long way off the standard required. I don't think so. Football is a funny old game and sometimes it just takes one player or some kind of mental shift to change things. We have seen that negatively (Eduardo) before, so why is it so hard to accept that the same thing can happen positively?

We don't need 5 new first team players IMO. I think that would be a disaster. We need one or two first teamers and maybe one or two good back-ups. Then we need our first-teamers to pick themselves up and play their best football.

As we have seen recently, once you get a good run going, it is self-fueling.

Yeah, I pretty much agree with that. I think we need 2-3 top class additions.

Given that Wenger never signs players we think we need, or anyone we have even heard of, rather than saying what you think we need, what sort of player do you think we will actually sign?

I think we'll sign Maxime Gonalons and Pierre-pascal Aubergine (or whatever his name is, the St ettiene striker). They play in France, they're pretty cheap etc.

I think we should sign Gonalons though, would be a steal for 10 million. Brilliant DM.

Personally I'm not keen on Gonanlons.
Good player but not the kind of midfielder we need. He's more of a Michael Carrick and I think we need someone more destructive.

Personally if we are signing a defensive midfielder my choices would be Kodgobia or Wanyama.
Both are technically gifted enough for Arsenal but are also powerful and combatative. Neither would come cheap though.

I think that Wenger is going to pull some rabbits out of a hat. Even if you look recently at Cazorla and Podolski, those were out of the blue and no one had suggested we would sign them virtually up to the day they were announced. Same with Arteta.

If you had said before it happened that he would sign Arteta and he would be our lynch-pin in defensive midfield, everyone here would have called you a moron, and told you you know nothing about football.

I am really looking forward to seeing who we get, but my guess is that initially a lot of our fans are going to be disappointed.

Reports are saying that we did in fact almost sign David Villa on January. I wonder if Wenger will go back in for him ?

The papers are now claiming that Spurs are favourites to sign him. I think he would be a short-term fix, but I want us to invest in a long term one.

He broke his leg a while back and has clearly not recovered. Getting an injury like that is horrible at any point in a player's career but at his age, it was bound to seriously affect him. Same with someone like Sagna, who broke his leg twice last season.

How about Sissoko? Could be a good replacement for Diaby.

Diaby first raining session 9:00AM, back after 9 months out, might as well inform the local hospital to expect diaby in at 9:30AM after a shawcross tackle.

That list makes Arsene and Ivan look ambitious.

It seems with Chelsea now chasing Lemandowski and Real Madrid after Cavani the hype around Falcao has dissipated. (He's even being linked to Monaco this week)

Athletico Madrid need the money therefore rely on selling their best players on a regular basis. Would love to see Arsenal just try and make a quick move for the guy. I think £30 Million would do it and he's worth every penny.
