I get people telling me all the time that they couldn't move like I have, they want to stay close to family, they like the place they are from, they don't want to risk moving in case it doesn't work out, they don't want to live somewhere so ****. Such an attitude denotes an aversion to both risk and sacrifice, and it makes a person less likely to achieve anything greater than average. I don't want to live somewhere so quiet, but in my case the only current alternative is to choose convenience intertwined with mediocrity, there are no better options on the table in terms of ambition - but there are less stressful easier options (which often tempt me). I am not particularly delighted with my living situation but I'm trying to go long and hope that it gets me where I want to be in the end. Similarly Scotland has the choice right now between staying where it is, taking the comfortable option with less risk and continued mediocrity - or it could choose to go long, take the risk and the pain, stand on it's own two feet and see what it can make of itself.
Jip, surely Elgar wrote, Pomp and Circumstance, not Land of Hope and Glory! I expected better from you Jip, I really did.
what happens if the place you live is suburban bliss with good schools and good opportunites for work? why leave? doesnt mean you are not ambitious.
