Could be Andy! Liverpool and West Ham set for Carroll talks - but Spurs and Newcastle fancy hitman too
    9 May 2013 22:30

Hammers hope to quickly tie up permanent transfer after hailing on-loan striker for battling back from injury to become key man

West Ham are set to open talks with Liverpool over a permanent move for loan striker Andy Carroll – and hope to clinch a deal in the next few weeks.

But Sam Allardyce’s men could face a battle to bag the 24-year-old centre-forward from the Anfield giants, as he also interests Tottenham and his first club, Newcastle.

Hammers co-owner David Sullivan said: “We would love to keep him beyond this season and we will soon be sitting down with Andy and *Liverpool to make some progress on that front.

“Andy has battled back from injury twice to put in a series of tireless shifts for the team. His game is about so much more than just scoring goals.

“He is so often the focal point of *everything good we do going forward.”

Despite facing lengthy periods on the sidelines with knee and hamstring *problems, the England international has still managed to score seven goals and played his part in helping West Ham *challenge for a top-half finish.

AC would rather end his carreer with us than anybody else. I'd like to see him back playing in the B&W stripes.

Two minds. Need another striker, but not to encourage more hoofball.

All that matters is goals and wins. I'd rather play long balls and win, than pass it on the ground and lose.

There's nothing wrong with an old fashioned partnership. Carroll knocking it down for Cisse would be an effective pair IMO.

Plus a good pair of wingers and getting back to a solid 4-4-2 set up.

If we can get a good manager in that knows how to organise a team, it can be effective.

We need to get better at set plays because they can win you a lot of points. Look at Chelsea the other night. They played sexual football for 20 minutes, but scored due to a knock down from Cahill to Mata from a set play.

Like to see him back and in no way does it encourage hoofball in my opinion.

Agreed. Hoofball like Stoke and making use of a target man like Everton with Fellaini are too different things.

Everyone needs to play it long every now and then. Passing it around and breaking a team up is very difficult against a defensive side. Sometimes you need to be more direct.

The lad is not **** on the ground. He skinned a few of our defenders the other day. The bloke is on par with Benteke for the best target man in the league.

That would top everything off, somebody that can get things organised rather than somebody that thinks he can get things organised.

Think him and Cisse feeding off could work well. Just need 2 good wingers who can get to the the byeline and put in a good cross.

We need a winger that has pace and can put a good ball in. Like a Matt Jarvis or Antonio Valencia type.

It's like watching politics this forum. Everyone hates 4-4-2, demanding 4-2-3-1/4-3-2-1/4-3-3....then starts saying how great Mandy/Cisse will be....particularly with wingers supporting!

I think we're all agreed that the problem right now is Pardew. That, however, won't change so I don't think we have an easy solution. Our particular issue is that our manager, therefore our club, has no identity when it comes to playing style. Worst defense in the league, no attacking football, no real fitness, no organisation, no "two banks of four", no "number 10", no wingers, and so on. We cannot lay claim to any playing style, apart from....HOOFBALL! The long ball game is all Pardew really understands, so in my opinion buying Carroll will allow him to be more Wimbledon 90's and less Barca 00's. For me, it represents a get out clause for Pardew, something which will cover up the cracks in his inability to bring modern tactics to his game. He'll get a couple of stalwarts in to shore things up and before you know it we'll be putting Stoke to shame.

Best form I've seen from AC was for the U21's in a 433 with Wiltshire feeding him and two quick forwards/wingers either side. This allowed him to stay central and act as the link man. I think too many associate his time with us under Hughton with Nolan as his oonly way of playing. He is versatile for me. It gives you different options and there is nothing wrong with going long sometimes, just don't make it your stock ball! I'm not even sure it suits him when you play like that because Carragher bombarded him with humped balls and he didn't fair too well.

He can help Cisse but also the likes of HBA and Gouffran.

My only major concern is fitness and him being back in the north east (he likes a night out or at least used to - a little bit too much)

IF we stay up which is still a massive IF then I would love AC and If we matched west hams bid and it was a choice between London or back home then the only question would be what part of newcastle will he buy in.
By all accounts he loves London but there is no place like home and he has stated that this season.
Ref hoofball the only reason that would
Happen is if pardew stays as AC
Can play on the deck superbly

One of the reasons we are praying to stay up is none of the team have bottle and don't give a ****

    AC Would bring that Back

Would anyone accept a swap deal?

Carroll coming in and Cisse Liverpool bound?

This isn't confined to you as it gets mentioned a lot in the media too, but talk of swap deals make me laugh.

When in actuality do they ever happen? They never do!

The closest you get are two separate deals between the same clubs in close proximity, and that's often rare.

But to answer your actual point, no thanks! :D

I think we need to keep Cisse but was just trying to smooth the path for Carroll to reclaim his no9 shirt... <whistle>

Yeah I heard you on that and there's more crazy suggestions out there for sure.

I'm sure you've thought the same though on the swap deal thing anyway. It's handy in a lot of ways because the media LOVE them for headlines and rumor, but you can immediately dismiss it as bull!

You'd like to see big Andy back then? What would you pay?

Oh yeah yeah... there is one... but otherwise we're solid <ok>

Personally, I think if Pardew stays AC would be a good signing and I think he might do well with us again. If we get in some French possession-is-sexier-than-wine-and-hairy-women-type, then I think we'd be better off looking at other targets.
