Well if Jordan ever doubted the impact he's had, thank God good old stewie Downing has been here to confirm it, he can put his mind at rest now Why do they keep getting Downing to do interviews? I'm becoming a bit fan boy over Henderson but I'm glad his contributions are finally starting to get recognized by people within the club, but my God Downing's interviews infuriate me.
I think I skipped over that quote. Re-read the interview and couldn't believe it (unless OP added that bit himself! ). Difference is, Henderson is in the team because he's played well and contributes. Lack of competition is the only reason Downing is in the team. I hope he goes. This interview reminds me of when he scored a goal and put his finger to his lips, as if that one goal compensates for the 12 months of mediocre performances, no goals and no assists.
It completely baffles me mate, at the start of the season I did consider Downing a bit of a scape goat, but I'm gonna stick my neck out here and say that he's perhaps our worst ever signing, in a sense of the price. I know Carroll was 35m but at least Carroll he has actually looked good. I've never seen a so called "Classic winger" Not run at his man as much as Downing, yeah he's chipped in with the odd assist and goal when we've battered a team, but I can't think of one time in a big match when we've needed a good performance he has stepped up in. His main attribute is his passing.. Very often backwards to Johnson, backed in a corner. Completely bottles every tackle, and to top it all off, he's a regular bloody starter! Did I mention I don't rate Downing?
I just hope that Rodgers is going to sell him in the Summer. Terrible player who thinks that churning out average performances is an acceptable standard.

I'm usually quite patient with players and try to be poitive with anyone who wers the shirt but I just can't with him. I watched a vid recently with 3 Liverpool players shooting at a 5 a side goal they had to hit a prize that was in the goal and the contestant would win the prize, things like signed shirts. They were shooting pen spot distance and Downing actually missed the goal completely.
Downing is a gutless parasite, he has accepted mediocrity throughout his pathetic career. He must be sold in the summer.
I've defended the guy over the second half of the season because I felt like he was trying to prove something and working on his game. But interviews like the one above where it seems like he is just coasting through on his current performances really don't sit well with me. I really did will him to succeed but he just isn't a natural born winner, he will be forever content with mediocrity and playing it safe and it really is a shame because his basic attributes are far superior to many other wingers in the Premier League. He has pace, technical ability, and shooting accuracy/power in abundance, but he seems content to rest on his laurels. We don't need players like that. Definitely one of the areas we need to strengthen massively in Summer. A good right sided forward who is young and hungry for success.
Downing could be a really good player, he has the ability. He just never fooking uses it and doesn't seem arsed either. That quote about Jordan being in the same boat as him annoyed me. Jordan's there on merit and through hard work fighting against BR's lovechild for a spot. You're there because, well, I have no idea why. You haven't earnt it at least.

This is quite disturbing. Obviously people must be blowing smoke up his arse to try and raise his cofidence to perform. He's raised his game from 3/10 to 5/10 this season. Well done Stewie
