Apparently Toby Alderwiereld is going to Roma at the end of the season, according to the Metro.

Catalan newspaper Sport has claimed that both us and Atletico Madrid have offered €12m for David Villa, a price that's put off the big spenders at Arsenal. Barca want €15m.
I'm going to call bullshit on it now and save some time.

All sorts of names in the gossip including Villa. At 31 I wouldn't bother with him as a striker I'd go for somebody yonger to build for a longer term future. But let's please get some good names in and let's go.

Can't see it happening myself but he would be one hell of a step up for Spurs. whenever I've seen Barca or Spain he's looked absolute quality. He's (like I mentioned many, many posts ago) one of those forwards who isn't "just" a finisher but has the technique and skill to add some creativity to the team as a whole too.

10m plus with no re-sale value? Not a normal Levy investment. Personally I think that exceptions have to be made sometimes. The value of having David Villa in your team is not measured by his future transfer worth.

How's he fitness-wise? Inclined to have injury problems or anything? What's the catch, basically?

Oh - and he must be on massive wages, no?

What's this Christian Tello lad like? I see he's got 10 in 34 for barca, which is good considering the limited opportunities he must get!

    Apparently we're interested.

apparently this guy wants to come to us. (probably just his agent whoring him out)

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ante_Rebić

    http://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/2892/transfer-zone/2013/05/10/3967572/-

The Under-21 striker has been the subject of several scouting trips by the north London club, and other Premier League sides, and would welcome a move to White Hart Lane

Tottenham have been described as an “ideal” fit for highly-rated RNK Split striker Ante Rebic, who has been scouted by clubs across Europe.

The 19-year-old has attracted interest from "every top club from England", and after notching nine goals in 23 league starts for his club, RNK have already rejected several offers for their coveted youngster.

Rebic is very impressive. He plays as more of a second striker but can also play on the left wing. He's really powerful going forward, with decent pace and is skilful, too. He also has the footballing brain to play at a high level.

In terms of playing style he is a mix between Ivan Perisic and Alen Boksic.

Playing for the small Split side, plus the fact he is yet to make his Croatia debut, means he would probably be available for around £4-5 million at the most.
But a bid in excess of £4.2 million (€5 million) should be enough to snare Rebic, and his agent, Danko Dikic, believes the Croatian would be interested in a move to England and, specifically, Tottenham – though refused to confirm that a successful bid had been lodged by Spurs.

“For sure [he would like to move to England],” Dikic told Goal.com. “But it would have to be a good club, because [RNK Split] are asking minimum €5m, and not every club can afford that.

“He is a regular for the Croatia Under-21s and I think he will now be selected for the national team against Scotland.

“Ante is confident in himself and he would like a move. England is number one and Germany. The way of playing is attractive, fast.

“Absolutely [Tottenham would be a good club for him]. The way of playing from Tottenham, and the way of playing from Ante, maybe, maybe, the right club.

“Because offensively Ante is good - he's big, strong, fast - it could be an ideal situation.”

Rebic has been likened to one-time Middlesbrough striker Alen Boksic, who won Serie A with both Juventus and Lazio, while Croatia national team coach Igor Stimac has labelled the 19-year-old the best player in the Prva HNL league.

Such lofty comparisons mean Rebic is hot property and Tottenham, who have deployed several scouting trips to Split, will face stiff competition for the 6 ft 1 in forward.

“It is not only now [that Tottenham have watched Rebic], it was also before,” Dikic continued. “But not only Tottenham, lots of other English clubs. German and Italian clubs are scouting him also. Manchester City, Man United, everybody. Every top club from England.

“There's a big, big interest for the player. For Tottenham I cannot confirm or deny the interest officially, it's up to the club.”

Dinamo Zagreb – from whom Spurs bought Luka Modric in 2008 – are also looking to make a move, and have reportedly already had a bid rejected by RNK Split. And although Rebic is keen to test himself one of Europe's top leagues, he would be tempted by the Croatian giants.

“Zagreb is giving a big offer, they also want to [sign] him. For his development, maybe Dinamo is the best because he's in Croatia, he will play regularly in the national team.”

The games i've seen he played left, but as a sub. I've only seen about 2-3 games of his but in every one he has scored within a couple of mins or even seconds of coming on.
The one that sticks in the mind was when he ripped some german team a new one (Leverkusen maybe?) in the CL last season. Admittedly they were already being beaten but Tello came on and scored with a couple of Bale-esque runs and finishes. He may even have got a hat trick. Not sure.

I've probably seen him in total for less than 90mins though, so make of it what you will.

Hope so, he's lost a few yards of pace with injuries and whilst he's still a great player, it's a lot to pay for someone who's 32 this year. Other than that it seems like we're being linked to a million and one attacking midfielders so all of those rumours can't be true.

Interesting. So if it's true it could well mean that bale's predominant role will to be central. - That'll save us some money!

The papers will have him down as a Bale replacement if it happens no doubt

Even they're coming around to the liklihood of him staying and regardless of whether we get CL football, or not. Like I said all along <whistle>

I honestly cannot see Levy agreeing to pay £12mil for a 31-2 year old player. It doesn't add up.

Re Bale. I've felt for some time that he would stay at least another year. Hope I'm right!. But I do feel that we won't be able to keep him forever if we don't spend some money and improve the quality of the squad.

Left-sided, although can play on the left and up front.

So the papers will automatically assume he;s Bale's replacement...

Even allowing for the usual nonsense, shows us that Spurs are moving in the right direction
when even the red-top bullshitters are linking us with David Villa.

And Spurs can never have too many Croats in the squad. :)
