Why is it then when you look back at the last 50 years of football in England, the managers from Scotland seem to have completely out performed the English and other foreign managers in our game? The Scots tend to build dynasties while the English have only fleeting success on the whole.

    Scottish Managers
Bill Shankly, Matt Busby, Bob Paisley, Alex Ferguson, Kenny Dalglish, George Graham have all won multiple championship titles and in the case of Paisley and Ferguson Multiple European cups.

    English Managers
The only English born managers that can come close are Bill Nicholson (Spurs Double Winner 60/61), Bertie Mee Arsenal Double Winner 70/71, Brian Clough with Derby and Forest, Don Revie with Leeds, Howard Kendall Twice with Everton and the most notable achievement of all is Joe ***an who in his first season as Liverpool manager won the League Title, League Cup and European Cup! Yes our Sir Alf is the only manager from these shores to have won the world cup but it does seem that on the whole the Scots are far more successful at winning trophies.

I think the era of Scottish football competing with English football has died out since Euro 96 - at club level and at international. Maybe it's because of the Premier League and problems in the SPL, but there don't seem to be many good Scottish players around now.

I think if you take Sir Alex out of the equation over the last 20 years no other Scottish manager has really achieved. George Graham and Kenny Dalglish did in the early nineties, but really we're talking about one man. We can expect David Moyes to be successful but we could expect anyone who took over at Man United now to be successful. Oh, and you forgot to mention Sir Bobby, one of the most respected and successful managers in history and an Englishman.

I didn't mention Sir Bobby because unfortunately for us he never won the League Title!

I've always liked to have seen Duncan Ferguson as a manager somewhere....(except Ipswich).

He's won Dutch and Portuguese titles, two European trophies, Spanish and English cups, runner up several times in the First Division and plenty more. Surely better than Kenny's title with Blackburn and the team he inherited at Liverpool?

Have to say whilst not following your point exactly, there seems to be a much higher proportion of Scottish and Irish managers compared to English ones in the top 2 leagues in England. They certainly don't have as good players but it is remarkable the number of decent Scottish and Irish managers around!!
