He's the only one of your lot I despise. In the time mentioned, (1990) I reckon we'll still have had one of the top six or seven attendances in the league. Given a decent side challenging for the title, either of us could have 60~70k a game. Shame we have to endure ****e season after season..
Spot on Vegas. I watch all my games on tinternet and the choice of weekend games is staggering. All games from all countries giving me chance to see the best games available.
That's mind blowing! The British continue to be fleeced and we do nowt about it. I've always said if match tickets were reduced to £10 adults, £5 kids we and most grounds in the EPL would sell out week in week out. And I'm pretty sure any lost revenue on gate receipts would be recouped on food/drink and other merchandise sold. Also a sold out ground would be much more attractive to external sponsors. Hell we could even increase the ground capacity to the 60k its capable of ;-). I know it's a bit pie in the sky but imagine what impact an extra 20k people coming to games would have on the local economy?
We are already losing money as a club, and if anyone really thinks that gates would rise significantly if prices were reduced, I think they are deluding themselves..
Do you really think? I am just interested in the debating this as I think its a very interesting subject? If it was free to go do you think the stadium would be full? If it was £10 to watch the match on the internet or free to go to the game do you think people would go? The big thing that stops me from going apart from work is the cost of petrol. its about £100 round trip from my house which is more than 2 x tickets. If you add a hotel and food your talking £250 for 2 of us to go to a game.

We need to follow the Germans on this matter. Read recent article which mentioned how cheap the Bundesliga is to watch yet despite this only 3 league clubs finished in the red (dont know which). They're making it work somehow without bankrupting the fans and the clubs. By the way I never in my wildest dreams believe premier league clubs will develop a conscience and drastically reduce tickets. It's just a nice thought.
The Germans clubs have a lot of outside funding which enables them to have the reduced ticket prices, and unless things changed drastically in the way we fund our football clubs, we could not do the same.
We have lots of outside funding, Sky for a start, Ellis Short is not exactly short (pardon the pun) on cash. He is worth something like 4 billion. His aim will be to build the business up so that he can sell it for a massive profit in the future or float it for a massive profit. The ideal situation is to become Champions League (which is very unlikely), but the next thing would be to have a massive loyal fan base. The solution to this would be fill the stadium by massively cutting ticket prices. It would also put the club as the centre of media attention.
Whilst a lovely idea in principle, whenever we've had tenner tickets, or bring someone cheap, the gate has barely budged. The gate would maybe gain 2k, which isn't solving the riddle. People are skint, and if people are skint, football is a luxury, £10 to go to a match is still a lot if you have no bucks and a family to look after. Gates will not hit the max until the world sorts it's **** out, sadly.
...and we have to be a team worth watching to get any armchairs/young-uns back into the ground..we might well be worth watching next year under pdc. for atmosphere, bring back standing room only sections behind each goal - works a treat in Germany.
I disagree - I think the ground is the right size. We fill it a few times a season and it's better to have a few seats available a few times a season than none available at all (maybe not financially but definitely as we do this) - just an opinion though Also, as was said, there are other teams who only get 18-20000 at their grounds but their grounds are full. It dowsn't "cost" the club £6m to have 6000 empty seats every week - thisn is simply the amount of money they would take if they sold all the seats. Stupid comparison. Agree totally that the 2 north east clubs, in (IMO) one of the poorer areas in the country, cannot be slated for their fans
