Everton have confirmed Moyes is leaving at the end of the season. A message on the Everton website says David Moyes has a "desire" to join Manchester United. This was on Man Utd's Facebook page a few minutes ago apparently... http://epltalk.com/2013/05/09/manch...the-new-manager-photo/man-utd-facebook-moyes/ I'd say that confirms it. Expecting to see Leighton Baines join Man Utd soon as well then...
HA HA HA. Think he has got a seat next to Sir Bobby Charlton in the directors box for sure. David Moyes will be. No surprise that he is leaving Everton at all. Look at the squad of players he gets to work with ?
For those who dont know.......FERGIE BY NUMBERS. 49......The number of trophies that he has won as a manager of St.Mirren-Aberdeen and Man Utd. 2046...points won in the PL by United under SAF so far with 2 games to play. 13......PL titles won @ United. 1,133....managerial changes in the top 4 divisions since SAF took charge of Man Utd. 14........current first-team MU squad members not even born when SAF took charge back in 1986. 45........Utd's longest unbeaten run in all competitions under him. 9-0.......the biggest win under SAF. against Ipswich Town back in 1995 1-6.......his heaviest defeat anywhere. Man City @ Old Trafford in oct 2011. 109.......the total number of players that he has signed during his time @ MU. 26.........years that Utd had to wait for a league title before SAF first in 1993. 14.........the number of mamagers that Man City have had during SAF time @ MU. £60,000.....SAF estimated annual salary when he joined them back in 1986 £5m..........SAF estimated annual salary this season. 17............games missed by SAF during touchline bans. 65.22........SAF win %. Some pretty fine figures that Ferguson has got.!!! FACT.
Way back when, in 1986 SAF first match in charge of Man Udt, they Lost 2-0 to Oxford Utd in the old first division(PL now) @ Oxfords previous Manor Ground (what a dump - a bit like Bradford before the fire) on Nov 8th. www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/...harge-Manchester-United.html?ito=feeds-newsxm SAF did not win his first league title until 1993. So i guess that David Moyes has a little bit of time when he takes charge on 1st July. I would guess that Moyes has a good chance of one trophy at least next season. If he does then he will have already superseeded SAF on that one.
Hardly comparable though is it. If SAF was handed a similarly skilled squad back then, I'm sure he would have been expected to win something a damn sight quicker. Agreed though, I doubt Moyes will be given the boot as quick as he would at Chelsea, per se.
I always think of Fergie's 'Kid in a sweetshop' spending one early pre season (was it his first?) as he desperately chased that first trophy. He signed Neil Webb, Gary Pallister, Paul Ince, Mike Phelan and Danny Wallace for HUGE sums at the time (I think Pallister was a record). It was a spree unheard of in those days and it makes me chuckle when Utd fans have since slated both Chelsea and Citeh for 'buying the title'. Utd in those days chucked money around like nobody else but that's all soon forgotten. I remember they crushed Arsenal, the reigning champions, 4-1 in the first game of the season and everyone thought they'd walk the league. Dont know where they finished up but I know it went pear shaped quickly.
Oh no. Moyes will be given time just like when Fergie started. Moyes has a 6 year contract worth upto £33m so even if the sack came he would not suffer that much.....Lol. But all will be in place for Moyes to make things as easy as possible. Its just good looking back to see how Fergie started out all those years ago when all was not as it is now. SAF did go through the mill many times before he found the safe keys.
