If its Moyes I will back him but until hes confirmed or someone else is as far as I can tell I am expressing my concerns over a potential manager. Moyes is great, hes safe and consistent. That may well get us the odd title every few years but should he finish 5th next season then hes sacked, players leave and suddenly we become Liverpool. thats my concern though Moyes has finished top 4 with Everton which gives me hope.
Why we would even consider a manager who has never managed in the Champions League is beyond me. It's such a massive % of our income, if we go out early in that then things suddenly don't look so rosy.
Think of it from the Glazers POV. They have a plan in place, for it tpo work we need to be finishing top 4 every year and doing well in the CL. If we fail to achieve that then major problems arise. If its Moyes and we finish next season without a trophy or out of the top 4 ( I think Moyes will get us top 4 btw ) then he will be sacked without a seconds thought. There will be no discussion, he will be gone as we cannot risk further failure.
Gill also said he's looking for someone who offers stability and is in line with the club's philosophy (which rules out Mourinho) and with PL experience (which rules out Klopp). I also remember him ruling out the Glazers around a decade ago! Moyes is not be my ideal choice, but we could do a lot worse. He's consistently challenged for the top five or six with a club with around the tenth highest budget, so if he can repeat that with a club with the third, and potentially soon second or first, highest budget then we should be looking at top 2. He probably won't win as much as SAF, but no manager could imo.
True. If he wins two in the next decade ( assuming he delivers enough to continue that long ) then hes not done half bad. The BBC are saying Moyes will be named tomorrow so seems like its done but I still don't quite believe it. I dont see us announcing it so early as its not like us. I know Everton basically have nothing left to play for but its still strange. Maybe it wont happen, Maybe it will.
I can understand apprehension at Moyes' appointment but what I don't get is negativity and hostility. At all. Whoever gets the job must be given a chance as there is no one out there who guarantees a thing. Not Mourinho, not anyone. He could fall flat on his face and be sacked in six months if his face didn't fit, just like Brian Clough and others have been down the years. Personally I'd have liked Klopp to get it, he's clearly made of the right stuff, but he is unlikely to so I understand the Moyes choice and will go along with that. For now, sod europe. The league is THE most important thing and Moyes offers us experience in that, Europe will have to wait and will eventually come. We've got the experience in the back room and players for Europe for now, no worries. It's going to be interesting and a little worrying but that would be the case whoever gets it.
I reckon whoever United put in will probably do fine initially SAF will leave the squad in a great state. I personally thought Kenny wasn't a great manager and that we did well under his tenure as a result of the work of his predecessor and the squad he inherited. Fergies successor will at least do that. I don't know about Moyes in the long run though. He has spent money at Everton, regardless of what the press say, and he has done a reasonable job, but the league finish has been inconsistent, and he's won nothing. When fergie took over at united he was proven. Nobody else would have beaten Real Madrid in the Cup winners cup with Aberdeen. Its a gamble IMO, but as someone else has said, if he's SAFs choice, you can't really argue.

Regardless of who our new manager shall be, it`s Manchester United that will get my support. I honestly don`t think there is a manager around that could come in and compare to SAF in winning titles and trophies on such a constant basis. As long as whoever comes in can keep us challenging i will be happy. I think most Utd fans have been dreading the day that SAF would decide to step down. That dread coming from the fear of us stepping into the unknown, will we continue with some semblace of stability or will we crash and burn. We are about to find out. One thing i do know, whoever is in charge next season, it will seem really weird not seeing SAF in the dugout chewing packets of gum.
You can forget signing top top kids or players if there is competition for their signature. Moyes has as much personality and aura to convince someone as my goldfish.
I think that United do need to confirm the manager ASAP, UIR. It's already being reported that United shares have fallen on the New York stock exchange since Fergie announced his retirement. The Glazers will want to stop this as quickly as they can.
I'm happy with the Moyes appointment. He's cut from the same cloth as Sir Alex. He's even knocked Liverpool off their ****ing perch!
I hope for the sake of the club I love that I am proved wrong, but I do not think Moyes is the right man for the job. In my opinion the club are making a mistake in looking for a manager who will create another dynasty, like SAF. Those days are gone, SAF has built for himself and the club a lasting legacy in that he has created a club with an infrastructure second to none, and with facilities and staff that are the equal of anyone in European club football. That work was SAF's lifetime achievement, and we don't need his like again. Thanks to all SAF's work, the club is so established that it will virtually run itself in terms of finance, merchandising, medical staff, coaching staff and youth development - all the focus now needs to be on managing the playing side of things. You only have to look at the best teams in Europe to see that you don't need long-serving managers to breed or generate success, you need the very best managerial talent available at that time, and, like players, change them regularly to refresh and re-invigorate the team. Just look at Barca and the success they have achieved under several different managers, the same with the majority of successful clubs. This notion of a figurehead, dynastic figure is now a very dated concept in football terms, in much the same way as the like of Giggs and others who stick with one club throughout their career is seen as a rarity. What we need is to use our might to secure the best managerial talent, whoever that may be, and get the best out of them and then move on. The financial imperatives of the modern game mean that we can't afford to fall behind, not only do we become a less attractive destination for the best playing talent, but if our revenues diminish, we won't be able to afford them in the first place. We need a manager who is going to come in, breathe new life into the playing squad, be a magnet for new talent and deliver results on the field - if only for a few years. I do not believe Moyes is that man. As I said, I hope I am proved wrong.
yeh they drooped by 5% on announcement, but by end of the day they had recoverd, dont read anything into share price, it took a bigger hit when David Gill annouced his retirement.
