"UEFA Europa League In the event the FA Cup winners are qualified for the UEFA Champions League the FA Cup runners-up will qualify, but in the place reserved for the lowest ranking Barclays Premier League representative" http://www.premierleague.com/en-gb/fans/faqs/who-qualifies-to-play-in-europe/ Does that mean Wigan will qualify instead of Everton? But that would mean we only have 2 entries with Wig and Swans?
I believe "reserved for the lowest ranking Barclays Premier League representative" means the lowest team that would qualify for EL through position, i.e. 7th.
Yeah but it also says There are three places in the UEFA Europa League available: the FA Cup winners will enter at the Group Stage; the fifth place team in the Barclays Premier League will enter at the Play-Off stage; and the Football League Cup winners will enter at the Q3 stage. ????? So with only 3 qualifying, FA, 5th place and league cup there isnt anyone else from the league qualifying???
I think it is because normally a Chelsea, United, City win those comps and they have CL so the spot gets bumped to the league position. It is all a bit confusing. At the end of the day, we won't have Europe.
3 get 3X UEFA cup places, 1 goes to the winners of the CC, 1 to the winner of the FA Cup & 1 to 5th place in the League. This year Swansea got the CC place, Wigan will get the FA Cup place (win or lose) & the 5th place in the league will claim the last one
it is simple. it refers to the point at which said team will enter the europe.. i.e group stage for 5th or qualifying rounds. if you win the fa cup you go in later than if you are a runner up. there is zero way 7th is getting a europa slot. everton don't look like getting one either. swansea have one, wigan will have one just like brums did in div 1.
Ah cheers fellas Thats clearer, I think Shame we aren't in it but if the club believe it will help us back into the top 4 I'll leave it with them
I think sometimes the preseason is bad but the reality is the only thing getting us into the top 4 is 200million pounds this summer.
This. I think it means: If Wigan win the FA Cup they enter at the Group Stage; 5th place gets playoffs and Swansea gets the third qualifying round If City win the FA Cup then 5th place enters at the Group Stage, Swansea get the playoffs and Wigan get the third qualifying round Basically Wigan the best spot if they are the FAC winners, but worst if they are runners up. Either way, 6th or lower will definitely not be getting an EL spot this year (unless it's through Fair Play).
This^ We've hardly been stingy over the last few years but still only rarely troubled the top spots. City and Chelsea, with their illustrious, expensive squads should, if money was all, be the ones consistently sitting in the top two places. Instead, they still get left behind by Utd who have a mixture of a few undoubted top class players and some decent, solid journeymen. Throwing money at it is seldom enough in itself.
oh its all about money! even city with a mad man like mancini in charge and an idiot like balotelli and a total donkey like barry could buy a league. Tottenham have gotten very very lucky with bale and frankly modric too. they have some good players at the back but even they have crap in the middle and up top. but they have spent their moeny well. they sold players and got good in. we are the opposite we spent borrowed moeny badly then sold at a loss.. .even when we sold well we bought badly. Arsenal are hanging on by more luck than good judgement as thier buys trundle along looking muck.... chelsea can spend 500mil tomorrow... city will spend 500mil.. utd can spend 100mil... LFC hav eone slot i nthe cl to aim at or a title one or the other.... and util we spend 200mil and put Tottenham and arsenal to shame we are going nowhere. money talks... end of. LESSON.... dortmund will need to up the salaries of players and manager radically or their team will be picked off, they are doing well but it can all go quickly. they will spend their pot of gold... if they don't we know what happens (arsenal)
