Have posted this on the mad forum but know a lot of people are on here twhich aren't on there so.... The subject of Danny Graham has come up on here a number of times but I'm fishing for a few opinions on him. When O'Neill was here he looked poor in everyone's eyes (including mine) - have his performances improved? I personally don't see that they have. OK so he's not getting much (any?) of the ball in the box but was he getting much when O'Neill was here? Was anything any different for him? My opinion - Jury is still very much out as I, personally, don't think he's good enough for us but that is just my opinion. He played much better against the mags and against Stoke the other night he had a couple of nice touches to bring others into the game but little in front of goal. He has been fouled in the box 3 times (once against the mags where he would've shot, once by Vlaar against Villa where he probably would';ve scored, and again on Monday night against Stoke where he was pushed over when about to head at goal) so is it a case of players are finding him easy to push off the ball? Or is he just unlucky? I do hope the lad proves me wrong with a goal or 2 this weekend but I honestly don't see him being the long term answer for SAFC.
i think he has a tremendous engine, works very hard for the team, great lay off for roses goal, needs a goal, hope its on sunday, i agree he's been unlucky in front of goal, the mags one will last in the memory for a long time, i like him but would look to replace him
Waste of 5m for me even though I appreciate the work he is putting in for the team. No pace or strength, always has his back to goal and his movement is very poor compared to fletcher for me. Contrary to what some people say he has had genuine goalscoring chances and has fluffed most of them, had Fletch been fit he would of stuck away another 3-4. It's the difference between a 5m and 12m striker, Fletch gets one chance a game and takes it whereas Graham needs a few. I do like the lads attitude and work rate but any poster of here would give their all for the shirt for 90 mins if given the chance. Nowadays you need to have more to your game than just being a "hard worker" and unfortunately our squad is full of too many of these players like Graham, Bardsley, McClean. He will be on the bench next season and sold the season after imo. Harsh but true.
he simply isn't good enough. tries hard, runs arounds etc etc, but no end result. I would ship him out at the first opportunity. Out of interest, if we made hime available for transfer, does anyone believe he will go to another premier league club. He probably will end up at the Boro...about his standard
Works very hard and I can't fault at all his commitment but we overpaid by about £4m on his fee. I never wanted him here (not just for the Scum connection) as he is simply not good enough.
Said exactly the same thing to a Boro supporting mate of mine - he was less than thrilled with the idea, which says it all really
Watford fan in peace. When he was with us, he had someone with pace alongside him and he was successful for us. At Swansea last season, he had the pacy wide players either side of him and at both clubs he had midfielders willing to get into the box. Based on what I saw in the last 2 games on Sky, he hasn't got that there. Also, you can tell the effect that being out of the side at City has had on AJ (popular at WFC from the half-season he had on loan to us in 07-08) and as probably the attacking player that, on form, would create the space for DG and then be able to find him, that's not helping either. Must admit, I was a bit surprised he went there as I thought that his style was too similar to Fletcher's, but we don't mind as we got 15% of Swansea's £1.5m - £2m profit from the sell-on clause. Not a bad bit of business for someone we signed for about £300k from Carlisle.
I'm not so sure about the negative views on here. I think he is an intelligent footballer whose runs and lay-offs often go unnoticed. Our problem is still supply to the front men and the quicker we get shot of Maclean the better. I may be wrong, but I think DG is a very handy player to have around.
Think it's a bit unfair to judge him just yet. Under MON he clearly wasn't fit enough and his chances were very limited due to the way MON set us up, basically not to get beat. At the same time Johnson, Sess, McClean were also playing crap and not getting quality balls into the box. Under PDC his fitness is vastly improved but he's been asked to pay for the team. Quality chances haven't been in abundance so far and I personally believe that the best time to judge him would be next season when hopefully, we will have a fully fit team supplying decent balls into the box for both him and Fletcher. I'm sitting on the fence for now but he could sway me with a hatrick against Southampton on Sunday
Imagine if we hadn't signed him, who would be playing up front. Jury is still out for me, our current style of play doesn't suit him at all so its difficult for him to look good really. He's trying hard but our plight does allow him to be selfish like strikers need to sometimes and play right on the last defender waiting for balls to come through to him. On another note I dont think he compliments Fletcher at all and due to the fact we aren't gonna play two strikers I can't see him doing much in a Sunderland shirt.
I am still puzzled why we signed an unfit player, who doesn't really score goals for 5million and let a younger player leave who does score goals for buttons, (who will acore for Cardiff next year) who is fitter and I reckon a better footballer. I was a MoN fan, but was confused with these transactions
Saha would have done no worse than Graham imo. Id rather have kept hold of Campbell and Saha and had that 5mill in the bank for the summer.
Danny Graham can't run, can't pass, can't hold the ball up & the mean one is he can't score, just look at the chances he had against Norwich & Fulham. we should of keep Campbell end of. plus the fans what say he is a good player must be brain dead.
Would expect nothing different from you!! Workrate is good and he played a couple of lovely passes on Monday (guess this was after your bed time as it was a school night so you couldn't go)
I was in the North West Corner row 5 & seat number 441 on monday night thank you very much. why does stupid fans like you always go on about workrate? football is all about skill not ****ing **** players like Graham & Cattermole running about like headless chickens. give me players like Berbatov who has skill with less workrate any day of the week. plus you say he played a couple of lovely passes? LOL all he does is simple passes you mug.
