The end of an era eh....... Was he the most successful club manager ever? "Bookmakers have made Everton manager David Moyes odds-on favourite to take over at Old Trafford. The Scot is out of contract in the summer at Goodison Park having delayed talks on a new deal until the end of the season."
That would be a turn up for the book.... Benitez last night made a strong hint the chosen one was going to Chelski.... http://www.dailystar.co.uk/posts/view/313415 spoilt for choice eh!
My personal opinion is Fergie is the greatest domestic manager ever in English football (other than GT, of course), but maybe his record in the European Cup will be a slight blot in his record. Only 2 titles in 26 years, and both of those had a certain amount of luck in them. Man Utd won't be such a force in the coming seasons, and will be interesting to see who they bring in; I think Moyes is the favourite, with maybe Phil Neville as Assistant or first team coach Mourinho taking over would certianly wind up the Chelsea fans - but woudl say he doesn;t meet the criteria for them. He comes in, makes an impact 9while spending a lot of money) then moves on Then there is Jurgen Klopp, who may be brought in with the hope of them bringing in a few Dortmund players. Only other person I can really think of is Laurent Blanc, but he's kind of gone off the grid since leaving the French team Whoever they bring in - I can see their dominance over. I feel there are a number of players who aren't top quality, ut Fergie brings that little bit extra out of them, and make them perform as a great team. Can the next manager do that....
If this is true then it certainly is the end of an era ! Fergie belongs amongst the greats of all time - alongside the likes of Bill Shankly and Bill Nicholson. They simply don't make them in that mould any longer. I can't begin to think who could replace him - and I think United will suffer now. The only names that spring to mind are Mourinho (This may force Chelsea's hand a bit), David Moyes and possibly Martin o' Neill as a dark horse.
Yes his record says that he has been up there with the best of managers. However when things have not gone his way rants about officials, opposing teams and players have rather spoiled his image.
It's his ridiculous use of the hyperbole to me, like saying when somebody kicked a ball at one of his players, "He could have been killed!" Must be difficult for defenders to get life insurance then!
http://www.ftbpro.com/posts/sam.san...eplace-sir-alex-ferguson-at-manchester-united Ole Gunnar Solskjaer? I think not... but doing well as a manager Guardiola? http://www.businessinsider.com/who-...uson-as-the-coach-of-manchester-united-2013-5
I agree. He will always be respected for his achievements and rightly so but I don't think he'll be in the nation's affections in the same way as someone like Sir Bobby Robson.
An afternoon in the midst of brambles and blackthorn is a very good way to let off steam. Mme asked if I would like bangers and mash for the evening meal. I wonder if the greasy spoon by Bushey Arches still exists. Not quite sure what will be the best bottle to go with it.
Well, if they'd like someone in that sort of mould, they need look no further than Neil Lennon...... Please, take the mouthy gobshite out of this country and get him off our front pages!
The Telegraph has this: "David Moyes will be announced as Manchester United's new manager within the next 24 hours as the Premier League champions aim to move quickly to appoint Sir Alex Ferguson’s successor at Old Trafford."
Well spotted and: "Despite long-term speculation linking Jose Mourinho with the manager's job at Old Trafford in the event of Ferguson's retirement, the former Chelsea manager lacks support among the higher echelons of the United hierarchy. Moyes's record at Everton since arriving from Preston North End in March 2002 lacks a trophy, or experience of Champions League football beyond the qualifying rounds, but the Scot's readiness to build teams and promote youth is understood to be central to United's decision to recruit the 50 year-old. Ferguson's elevation to a position on the United board ensures that the two men will be in a regular contact at Old Trafford, but the pair's strong relationship, which saw Moyes offered the job as Ferguson's assistant in 1999-2000, is likely to prevent friction between the manager's office and the boardroom. " So... a good fit then
