Start the car I will take him myself. I like the lad but I seriously hope this is true for that sort of money. He is a decent player but no more than decent IMO, does a canny job infront of the back four but for 12m there is better options.... Wilson Palacios Scott Parker McDonald Mariga Didier Zakora Etienne Capoue Capoue the one for me like, makes it look so easy, breaks play up and his distribution is top quality, some of his long ball passes are better than most.
£12million??? Don't just snap their ****ing hand off, take both arms and one leg. I like Catts, but i also like Meyler and Colback, and to double our money on a player who doesn't play enough, and who clearly is a bit of a prick, if reports are to be believed, would be the biggest robbery since my old dog Trigg nicked my Greggs after it had taken me 4 hungover hours to motivate myself for the walk to Sea Road. SOOOOOOOOOLD! To the guys with the **** stadium...
Good bit of business if it's true and we can pull it off. We would be able to appoint a proper captain as well.
Craig Gardiner from Birmingham for me, tenacious central midfielder who has an eye for goal. Got double figures from midfield including 4 or 5 stunners from outside the box. Don't think he'd cost anywhere near 12m, 6-8 maybe. If this could be pulled off id get it done.
Catts is one of SB's apparently good'uns that just backfired on him. Making him captain failed IMO. probably worth a chance, like SAF did with Keane but Catts may have been too inexperienced to fulfil that potential. We need a hard bastard with an experienced head in CM. A Barton minus the shenanigans. This would be good business if it goes through as long as "Bruce has somebody lined up to replace him". Otherwise, can you imagine the comments come Jan if we are 14th
if it's true we have to take it, saves the hassle of replacing him as captain too.. where has this story come from?
Yes we would need that experiencd replacement but TBH Colback and Meyler have show plenty to me so no panic. Funny how gossip is just that, gossip, unless its gossip you like then it is more of a fact. Big Chris will soon let us know if true.
searched everywhere and can't find this story, but will keep looking. unless it was leaked by a bloke in a pub? can't see lfc being interested in catts to be honest
Found it, in the sun? LIVERPOOL are set to make a £12million swoop for Aston Villa's unsettled star Stewart Downing. And Kop boss Kenny Dalglish is also closing in on Sunderland midfielder Lee Cattermole. Downing has two years left on his Villa contract and is refusing to discuss a new one. The England winger, who shares the same agent as Anfield stars Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher, said: "I know the club are keen for me to extend my contract. "But I'm 26 and at a major crossroads in my career. I do want to play in the Champions League at some point so I won't be committing to a new deal at the moment." Dalglish is also ready to offer £12m for Cattermole, 23, who is believed to have an escape clause in his Sunderland contract. The Anfield chief hopes to wrap up both deals by the end of next month - and is also close to signing France midfielder Sylvain Marveaux on a free from Rennes. But striker David Ngog, 22, has been told he can find himself another club - although Liverpool will want £8m for him. Dalglish is adamant the lack of European football at Anfield next term for the first time in a decade will be no barrier to attracting top stars to Merseyside. He insisted: "Our history and tradition makes us attractive whether we are or aren't involved in European competition. "If a player thinks otherwise, we're better off without him."
Well said, never really lived up to his billing (story of our season for most SAFC players). I think most refs are on the lookout for him too, so he tends to pick up early bookings which then impedes his game. Last season, when he had the ball (especially alongside Cana in the first half of that season) defences would stand off him and appear to be intimidated. This season they've learned his style and he's been owned a few times imo ... I also think Meyler is a better player
Just Googled him, Poolie. Seems like Spurs, Bayern and Barca have showed interest over the past two years. Also, his contract may have been renewed in Feb - not sure what the status is. But he certainly has the physicality and technique for the CM role and, like you say, the long passes in that vid were on the button. Good scouting!
Would be a great signing, he has scored 11 goals this season from open play, wouldnt cost the world either with Brum going down
Don't you see Liverpool, Chelsea, Spurs and United are linked with every player under the sun? And ironically, The Sun is the place of false rumour generation? Probably 5% of their gossip turns out to be true.
If i'm reading this correctly, the 12 million bid is for Downing, and there is no mention of the fee for Cattermole. However, it is in the Sun so I would take the whole lot with a pinch of salt.
there is mate 3 paragraphs down. Dalglish is also ready to offer £12m for Cattermole, 23, who is believed to have an escape clause in his Sunderland contract.
I'm a fan of Cattermole when he's on form but he's injury prone and never really looks fit. When he's fit he's close to England standard and I'd much prefer him to carthorse Barry unfortunately fitness is a rarity for him. For £12mil I'd snap their hands off. We have Colback and Meyler who both shone when they came into the team and I'd happily start either of them come August. Time will tell...
