With only 2 games remaining, and tonights result going in our favor - my question to you is, what do you think will happen? Couple of points: 1) Wigan to play in FA Cup final, then on the following tuesday they play Arsenal at the Emirates. Arsenal will need to win to keep Spurs off of them and their CL place, and Wigan need to win to have any hope of staying up. Both teams will be going for it. Who will prevail? 2) If Arsenal win, all we have to do is get a draw at Southampton to ensure our premier league survival. BUT! Due to the Arsenal match being played on the Tuesday, we won't know of the outcome when we play on the Sunday. If Arsenal Wigan was on the Sat, and Wigan lost we would only need the draw. A draw would suit us and Southampton perfectly - but do you see Di Canio wanting to play it safe, or go out and win it. A win would be perfect, a draw would be great... but a defeat would be devastating. What would you like to see happen? Keep in mind we don't know the Arsenal game score yet... 3) This weekend, obviously a loss for Norwich, Villa, Newcastle, and Wigan would be awesome. If these teams lost, and we drew.. we are safe. So if this does happen, which would you like to see go down? If we are mathematically safe, and it didn't matter about us, who would you like to go down? Villa and Bent? Wigan and their perennial great escape runs coming to an end? Or the French Foreign Legion and a good bye to the derbies?
just created a similar thread regarding point 2!!! im leaning towards settling for a point against southampton......but im not sure!!!!
I rekon 1 of us, newc, wigan and norwich will get 0points in the final two games lets hope it isn't us
Our season is in OUR hands. No one else's. if we win we're safe end of story (as I can't see Wigan scoring 11 goals in 2 games against Arsenal and Villa. If Wigan lose to Arsenal we ar safe no matter what but I'd rather we sealed Our own fate on Sunday.
1) Arsenal will win. Simples. 2) Play to win. What good has it done us so far this season with trying to defend for a draw or nick one on the counter to win? If we play for the draw, then I think we're more likely to lose. Even if we do lose I reckon our current points and goal difference would mean we stay up anyway (see 1. and 3.). 3) I can't see us (v Spuds), Newcastle (v Arsenal), or Norwich (v Man City) getting anything out of the final day. Wigan could very well win against Villa, who will already be safe by then. Our goal difference means Wigan will still be below us, but they'd jump above Norwich or Newcastle if they don't get points on Sunday. So a loss for us on Sunday will mean some nerves on the final day, but we'll be OK. A loss for Newcastle or Norwich would mean they'd have to rely on Villa to save them. They'd be bricking it.
After conceding three at home to a Swansea side with nothing to play for I can see Wigan getting tanked at Arsenal and sustaining fatal GD damage.
I can see this happening - Arsenal need to win or their CL place could be screwed. Whilst we presently have no strikers available, Wigan have no defence available which will be a massive problem against Walcott and co
Villa can't be relegated if Wigan lose. We can't go into Sundays game relying on Wigan to lose at Arsenal. So a win is what we have to aim for, I'm sure PDC sees it that way too.
...and for Chelsea to do Villa. i'd like to see us win on Sunday, and Norwich. all others around us - Nags, Stoke, Villa, Fulham (and obviously Southampton) to lose, but then for Wigan to win at the Arsenal on the Tuesday. so the final weekend has us safe, first and foremost, along with Stoke on GD. the Nags and Wigan on 38 Southampton on 39 Villa and Fulham on 40 Norwich, Stoke and Sunderland on 41 Villa, Fulham and Norwich would need 1 point to be safe. Southampton, Nags and Wigan would need to play for all 3. that's six teams in the mix, tres exciting and Sky having a field day.
Not quite Nordic. Final day will see Norwich on 41 safe as a Wigan win would keep Villa on 40. Next big game for us is Villa v Chelsea on Saturday.
Last 2 seasons Wigan have won their final 2 games...Mind season before that, they lost the last game 8-0 at Chelsea.
It's going to be tough for Wigan.I just wonder what sort of team they are going to have left by Tuesday. They didn't have a big squad to start with and presumably they will go all out at Wembley thereby potentially picking up further injuries.Their luck has finally run out.
I Reckon Wigan will lose both games, their time in this league is going to come to an end and their 2 and a half thousand hard core fans will be suicidal, the other 12 thousand or so will go back to watching rugby league and not really give a toss, if the truth is known
