Sad day as the greatest manager leaving but he could not go on forever. Now we must look to more exciting times ahead.

Who should replace is the problem? Smart money on Moyes. Rumours are that Mourinho talks stalling at the Bridge but I'd be shocked to see him at OT. Who knows Klopp could be an interesting choice.

Knew you wouldn't be able to resist :)

Tho I think it's now only a matter of time before Guardiola, Mourinho or even Ancelotti matches and then surpasses Paisley's record. Whereas I doubt anyone will come close to SAF's record of 13 league titles for several decades, if ever. In fact, does anyone know if any other managers come close to SAF's record of 16 domestic league titles across his entire career?

Heartbreak at the Mark Hughes household as he jumps up to answer the phone, only to be asked if he's ever been mis-sold PPI.

Not 100% sure yet on Jose but would piss myself if we did steal him and upset Chelsea.

I think Moyes would be a mistake personally.

Need a big name with big European experience.

Maybe so Swarby Boy. You can bet your life that Ferguson won't though, and that will always pain him. <laugh>

Moyes would be a bad way to go

Great with no cash and so no expectation. But give him resources and expectation and its gonna go tits up.

I doubt it - I reckon he'll sit back and watch other managers fail to better his 16 domestic titles and be perfectly satisfied with his career. I mean do you really think Paisley spent his retirement years sick as a dog that he never won the FA Cup or beat George Ramsey's then record of six league titles?

If he really felt like his career wouldn't be complete without another CL trophy then he wouldn't have retired, and if Paisley hadn't been happy with his record then he wouldn't have retired either.

Based on what exactly? He's never had resources or faced expectation, so that's just a completely one eyed statement. People could have said (and probably did say) exactly the same about Shankly and Paisley when they took over Liverpool, and SAF and Busby when they took over Utd.

I know that, but I wonder whether he could handle the pressure. As he doesnt really have any at Everton, he has done an amazing job for them.

In an ideal world for me, I'd like either maureen or klopp, Moyes goes to dortmund or somewhere, allardyce takes over at everton. we have an instant good manager for a good few years then if moyes proves himself in another league with more pressure then he comes to us..

though I suspect we will get moyes now with fergie as a director of football.
