Well, we thought that day would never come. One thing is for certain, the new manager is done and dusted. You don't manage a global brand like Man U and get caught on the hop scratching your head looking for a new manager in a few weeks. It would be amazing if it was Jose - very good for the PL and football in general and, of course, annoying Chelsea! I say well done Fergie. Leave on a high as Champions of the PL having passed Liverpool's total. There is a right time to step down and this is probably it for him. Personally I wish him well.

...Bosingwa? As unlikeable as he sometime has been, must admit that there will not be a manager as succesful in English football as he's been anytime soon. And to retire as champion, after another semi succesful season (CL didn't go as well as he'd have hoped) is always nicer than to go out as 2nd best, so timing is right, give some younger lad a chance at it. Enjoy your retirement, think you've deserved it.
Can not see that United would touch Mourinho, not even with a barge pole. He is the complete opposite to what United stands for. They will hire a manager that can manage the club with dignity. Someone who can start where Ferguson left off and steadily take the club forward, why change what works? David Moyes is the obvious choice for me.
Interesting what's being said about Fergie, that he knows everyone from the Chairman to the cleaner's assistant by their first names and takes time to draw them in to the whole enterprise. The spirit he has thus engendered in the club is legendary and vital to success. Everyone there is ManU to their core. That is what we need Harry to do for QPR. Build a team that believes in manager, club and fans and will play with a passion.
Fergie is a pain in the arse, but **** me, he can manage a team! Mourinho, Moyes, Jackett, what about Hughes, he is a management God (in his own mind)!
Ferguson has done very well. Manchester United did well to support him in the early years. His great strength is that after a few years he became bigger then any of the players who played for the club. Few managers achieve that. He has been quick to support them when they needed it ... and quick to show them the door if they crossed him. Fergie controlled the players by a mixture of respect and fear. He has also been helped by the fact that players wanted to sign for the club. Even when the team was struggling, players still wanted to go to the club because of the "history" and the fact that United were/are one of, if not THE, most recognisable names in football.

Surely a tenner on Howard Webb to replace Fergie?? From football dynasty to just another team with one little announcement. I think Mourinho is the only one who might have the aura around him to continue the success immediately, but his personality goes against everything Man Utd have become. But having seen how Mourinho was all pally with Ferguson during their recent champions league match, and then his comments about the best team lost?! Seemed odd coming from Mourinho, unless they already knew. But I think Moyes would be the perfect long term choice, but his lack of winning anything or Euro experience might make his appointment impossible. United aren't the club they were when Fergie took over and I don't think they can think long term anymore. Would their share holders accept the appointment of a manager with no silverware to his name? But whether you loved him, admired him or just plain loathed him, there is no denying that Ferguson has changed the course of football history and set the bench mark for all who follow him.
