****ing right I'm bitter and proud to admit it. It'll eat into his inner core that he never managed to equal Bob Paisley's 3 European Cups. Justice as well. Bob Paisley - great manager and lovely man. Ferguson - great manager. Full stop.

What a great year, first Thatcher now Fergus - cant argue with Fergies record however I can't stand the man. Will be interesting to see what happens to the club now.

Btw all this greatest ever mgr bollox? Paisley won the European Cup 3 times. Fergus never delivered in Europe, never had the total dominance we had.

    And now never will :D

Maybe, but I've been saying for months that I thought Ferguson might go at the end of this season & that there's only one man who is big enough to take over from him - Mourinho.

They might want to go for a longer term apt in Moyes though, Ferguson does rate him, so until there's an announcement I won't be comfortable tbh.

I agree here. For pretty much anyone younger than 30 we all only have recollection of a Fergie driven United. Now it'll be gone. <yikes>

Just can't see Mourinho taking over - I'm sure he would love it but I think the board have different ideas. Mourinho is very short term and likes to splash the cash.

I reckon he'll be able to console himself with the 13 Premier League titles mate <laugh>

Ferguson's achievements in the game - especially given the era he's overseen - are nothing short of remarkable. To have the longevity & consistency that he's delivered will never be matched. Setting aside club loyalties, any football fan must be able to admire the man's achievements in the game.

I think we should do a big tribute article to the man.

oh and if utd get mourinho they are ok but if they get moyes they are screwed.

I reckon RA will have crapped his pants and doubled his offer to mourinho already.

Come on, we'd all be delighted if Brendan managed half of what Fergie has.

Tobes. I said he was a great manager. He did what he did over 26 years. Bob Paisley did what he did over 9. Have a look at his record. That's if it's not etched on your heart <laugh> Looking forward to that chat with you in the alehouse. I'll speak to my mate at lunchtime to see if I can get any inside track on a replacement <ok>

25 years as manager, one shy of the 26 years that Utd didn't lift a league title. The contrast in eras could not be more stark.

I think it quite appropriate we give him an ovation as he leaves the field of play unbeaten by all comers. <applause>

So if have nothing good to say just don't comment, easy.

Former Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish has revealed that Sir Alex Ferguson was among the first people to pledge support to the club after the Hillsborough disaster.

The Scot confirmed that the current Manchester Unitedboss contacted him by telephone in the wake of the 1989 tragedy, which claimed 96 lives.

"When the Hillsborough disaster happened back in 1989, Sir Alex Ferguson was straight on the phone to offer his help in any way he could," Dalglish told The Mirror.

"People out there have different opinions about him. Some love him, some hate him, but when something terrible happens, like Hillsborough, Alex is one of the first asking what he can do.

"So although there is an intense rivalry between Manchester United and Liverpool, it would never prevent Alex from offering his assistance, which is exactly what he did back then."
