This is true. I once went through all the clubs in the 1-4 leagues who had a connection with Saints due to ex-players/coaches/managers currently plying their trade there and although it was in the minority, it was nevertheless a substantial number.

I don't like ****e like this. They deserved to be a Premier League team because:

    1. They got promoted once
    2. They got enough points in the last 7 seasons to stay up

Size (as I like to point out) of crowd has nothing to with it. They have achieved an incredible feat staying up for the time they have and credit for doing so. Their time now looks to have come to an end.

My comments were directed at the town of Wigan rather than the club itself...I'm sorry, but 18,000 for such an important match is pitiful.

I was going to pile on Wigan at Coral earlier today, thought they'd cruise to victory. Thankfully I didn't, especially as I would've had to place a fair chunk of cash on, considering the Latics were odds on!!

Neither do I. Earlier someone was saying they were a tinpot club. Such bloody disrespect to a small club that has performed bloody miracles to stay in the PL, and I still wouldn't put it past them to survive. The town of Wigan is what it is, just as the City of Southampton is what it is.

    Football fans. Who have them..?

Massive match tonight should be a cracker. Loser will struggle to finish in top 4.

I'm glad Wigan lost last night, but only because it virtually seals Saints survival. That said, I respect their club and wish there were more of their ilk and fewer "Chelsea" type teams in the PL....didn't they beat us 2-0 at St Mary's earlier? Good manager and, apart from his recent aberration re Thatcher, good down-to-earth owner. Home-town real fans who haven't been seduced by Man U, City or Liverpool. Frankly wish there were more clubs punching above their weight. Good luck to them

Doesn't make them not deserve to be in the prem. what do you know about the town? It's a rugby league town. Most the people like pies more than football. 30 years ago they were non-league.

Chelsea beat Spurs, Spurs false dawn materialises again, Stoke best Spurs, Stoke pack suitcases, Stoke stop off at St Mary's on way to ferry for holiday.

I may be wrong but a few years ago I seem to remember Chris Nichols managing them and they had a great bunch of young players. As for their fans I think they are owed some respect. Given their location it would be oh so easy to be like that Essex Cricketer on Talk Sport. Comes from Wigan but supports Manure.

You are right of course. Old age playing tricks. All I will say is I recall seeing Wigan in the eighties and was impressed with their great team of youngsters.

I understand your sentiment, but that "presenter" comes from Bolton.

Wonder if Rafa might think he has a chance of the United job? When you look at all the flak he's taken he's doner a very good job. makes tonights game even more interestng.

Whoever they get in, they have got a bit of a build on their hands. Jose would be a good call, a big personality will go along way. I reckon if Moyes got it, he wouldn't last a year.

Were I the sort to bet (by which I mean, were I in the UK and able to bet, as prop bets are hard to come by in these parts), I'd have a bit of spending money on Laudrup, for whom odds above 50-1 are available. He fits every inch of the profile.
